Shave Cream of the Month Discussion #1: D. R. Harris Arlington

For the month of June we're going to have two "Cream Of the Month" discussions. The first is going to for the D. R. Harris Arlington shaving cream.

I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on this cream. I'm going to have to get it and try it for myself, as I've never used it before. I have used Harris' Lavender, and found it to be very interesting in that it is so dense I had to scoop out a little ball and smear it like a paste on my palm to work up the lather. But the lather was incredibly slick and rich, so I'm anxious to see if Arlington has similar qualities. I'm also curious to see what you think of the scent. I've read the reviews, and I can't tell if it's a lime scent, general citrus scent, or a fern scent?

The "rules" of this Cream O'the Month are:

1. Use it one day or more, up to every day, if you care to participate
2. Post to share your impressions
3. Have fun and enjoy!

We're also starting a Discussion thread #2 for menthol type creams, for those who want to use and participate with these as well.

Enjoy!

Hi Randy..... I will be participating in June Arlington by using the soap rather than the cream. I will start off the month tomorrow morning with an Arlington shave and Arlington Cologne. The scent of the soap is very subtle, but I find it to be mild citrus and then fern. The cologne is more fresh citrus and has a wonderful scent but sadly doesn't stay with me all day. Of course YMMV. Have a great month.

Thanks David. I hope you will keep posting here as you use the Arlington soap this month. I will be interested in seeing what you have to share about the soap along with others comments on the cream.

I tried a sample of Arlington cream a couple weeks ago and have been hooked ever since. It's a very dense cream, imo, and is as slick and cushioned as any cream I've ever used. I managed to pick up the splash and cologne as well. I also have a tube of Godrej Menthol Mist that I love using as well. I look forward to participating this month!

That'a great! I hope you'll comment on the A/S and cologne, too? Also, are you going to participate in both? I'm interested in hearing about the Godrej, too. I've never used it, or even seen it.

For those of you who can, some pics of your lather, and even your "Shave of the Day" setups this month would be nice!

I will be participating in both. I'll make sure to post about the after shave and cologne as well.

It was a great shave and although I won't commit to using Arlington every day for a month, it is certainly a part of my rotation and I will try to get back here a couple of times per week.

Nice pic. I like the tortoise shell handle on the Dovo.

I am out of Arlington cream  but I will be participating with the soap, AS Milk, and Cologne :w00t::w00t:.

I have used the Arlington cream in the past and enjoyed it immensely!

I look forward to the discussions in this thread.

Excellent thread, Randy! :thumbup1:

I went by British Isles in Houston yesterday to pick up some Arlington shave cream, as I've never used it before, but they were out!

So today I've used Proraso Pre-Post for the prep, C.O Bigelow/Proraso cream for the shave in keeping with the other "Shave Cream of the Month", and as a nod to the citrus/lemon scent (as I understand it) in Arlington, I'm wearing Eau Sauvage EdT. After the Proraso/Bigelow, it's kind of like a "lemon chill"! :thumbup1:

I'm not thrilled with the scent. It's ok, but I like more natural scents.

With that said, this cream is amazing. One of the best. A little goes a long way, and the lather is one of my favorites. Well worth the price, and if you love the scent (and it seems most people do), then it will be in your top 3 or top 5. It really is that good.

Let me start this off by saying that I love this stuff :001_wub:
This is a pretty dense cream and a little goes a long way. For being such a dense cream, it doesn't take much effort to get a thick rich lather going. Slick as can be with plenty of protection. The scent is outstanding as well. This stuff is pretty expensive, but it's nice to pamper yourself! Highly recommended!

Does the DRH Arlington have the same consistency as the DRH Lavender?

I've had Harris' Lavender cream, and it was so dense I had to scoop out a pea-sized ball and smear it either on my palm or in a bowl, then work it into a lather with my brush. It was a little more work, but well worth it as the lather was very rich and creamy, as well as slick and cushiony.

Once again, great pic. Arlington x3, a Rooney and a Slant. Gotta love it! :thumbup1:

I have never tried the Lavender, but the Arlington and Rose were both pretty dense. I swirl my brush in the tub just like I would a puck of soap (only a few swirls though) and face lather. It works like a charm every time. This seems to take care of the problem you might have by taking a small scoop and trying to work it in a bowl. YMMV, of course.

The AS and Cologne work well together. This combo feels especially nice during these humid Wisconsin days.

I've just taken delivery of the Arlington cream and AS, so I'm up for a contribution to this thread. I've already shaved today, but I'll start properly tomorrow.

I've used the Harris Rose in the past and loved it and the Harris Sandalwood AS is amazing. If the Arlington range is the same, then I'm in for a real treat!!

Arlington is one of the first creams I fell in love with. It's super rich and cushioning, and the fragrance is cool, clean, and crisp. Performance wise, it's every bit the equal of the old formula Taylor's avocado, and smells better, to boot. All around, it's one of the very best.

I didn't have time for a shave today but in the spirit of this months themes I did splash on a little Proraso AS and after the scent faded I went with Arlington cologne.

Well I went with the Arlington theme today and I posted a picture on the SOTD thread.

The cream I'm very pleased with. It's quite thick and it takes a little working, but the lather it produces is sublime! I love the smell too, so overall I'm a convert to the Arlington cause.

The aftershave also smells wonderful; at least it does while it lasts. I got a little burn from the alcohol, but afterwards it was very cooling [is there menthol or something in it, as it was a similar effect?]
The only downside was that the smell was relatively short-lived on me, but I suppose that gives me an excuse to 'invest' in the cologne now!
