Hello all
This is my first post on the forum. I am based in Australia and I am looking to purchase a new Simpsons shaving brush from a local vendor (limited options here in Oz). I use shaving soap (Taylors of Bond Street Rose) and I am exclusively a face latherer. I just have not been able to get the hang of the bowl shaving, at least with the brush that I currently own. My current brush is massive, probably too big for its current face lathering duty. I recently gave my son a Frank Shaving Pure Badger brush and I have had a couple of goes with it and it seems to get the job done better than my brush. My brush, which I purchased on a trip to the US in 2009, is an Art Of Shaving Silvertip Handmade. It still sheds, but not badly but it appears as though it is thinning out in the middle. It is around 110mm high, with a knot around 27mm. My son's shaving brush has a knot of around 20mm and is about 95mm high.
I initially thought that the Frank brush would be too small, but it lathers up alot quicker than my bohemoth, albiet a little scratchier on the face and gives me enough lather for a two pass shave. I now want to upgrade my current brush to something more suited to face lathering and have come to the conclusion that I want a Simpsons brush. My local vendor has a couple of options available - Chubby 1 Best, Classic 1 Best, Emporer 1 Super or the Commodore X1 Best. Are any of these standouts for what I am looking for in a brush? Any advise would be appreciated.
