SE 1912 questions!

Hi guys! I've recently forayed into SE razors from DE and while I've been reading through the wiki and other informative threads, I'm still confused by one issue: 1912 razors!

When i first started? I had presumed that the venerable 1912 people often refer to belonged to the ER razors but now i've learnt that they tend to be the GEM DAmaskeen. There seems to be many 1912 razors, GEMs, ERs & Stars etc. Are they wholely different razors made by different companies or a similar design shared by all? Also how are the shavability of each brand's 1912.

THANKS! Looking forward to advice =)

I think that they are very similar due to the history of the three companies being very intertwined. IIRC first there was Gem and one of the partners left and formed Eveready, then formed Star then some merging took place. I'm sure someone will post a link to the company history. The damaskeene is a little more aggressive than the std. 1912. I have only used Gem 1912's. I would say that there are 1912's and the damaskeene is a variant.

Read this on company history http://www.personna.com/personna/blades/corporate/history/P40/ this is the last of 5 pages which takes you to the beginning of the company.

...Do you know if theres any variance in built quality amongst the diff brands?

The variances which I notice is more between the GEM 1912 Damaskeene and a standard 1912, I think that the head is slightly rounder on the Damaskeene. Looking at my other ones the only real differences that I see is handle type and slight variations to the blade guard clips.

So the shave shouldnt really deviate from a GEM 1912 to an Ever-Ready 1912? Haha thanks alot. SEs seem much simpler than the myriad of choices DE shavers face
