SCS Aftershaves?

Of Sues alcohol splashes which are the ones to own?

~can anyone comment on the new "Woods"? is it sandlewood or more on the ceder side of the spectrum

~Hydro? what's it's best purpose?

~how does the rose compare to DR Harris? better? worse? not comparable?

~how mentholated are they on the 1 - 10 scale?

thanks for your help fella's!

What you want - trust me on this - is her Mediterranean Citrus. Yes you do. If you don't think so, you are clearly wrong :) Mild menthol, awesome scent. Works very well. Use sparingly!

oh mike, i trust you. im a little hesitant on that one because i found out early on that while i love citrus scents they tend to burn my skin a bit. a phenomenon that i've yet to discover with anything else.

when you say a little goes a long way, do you mean that you'd use less than you would with, say... Alt-Innsbruck? speick? german pitralon? or AV even?

Heres the fragrance description of Woods:
Cypress, Balsam, Cedarwood, Bamboo, Musk, Sandalwood, Spice and Moss with a bit of Amber, and light florals.

Hydro is a low alcohol splash for those that don't want too sharp of a splash.

I have had no problems with SCS Med Citrus. But if you use too much it's sticky - sort of like Musgo. I can bathe in Speick or Proraso, but not SCS. I'd like to though! Sue puts glycerin in there which is great for the face. I wish shes make a version without though. I'd use more of it.

I have more than a couple...love splashes, milks and balms. For a splash I would have to go with Blue Line- chilly stuff. Her Lavender milk is excellent- just enough menthol added. And last but not least is her Avocado balm.

IMO, Sue's aftershaves are on par with the more well-known major players. And when you consider cost, they are a steal.

+1 on Blue Line (if you like a good freeze -- I'd call it an 8.5/10) and Med Citrus. Simply outstanding performers, at any price point.

Only a few of our aftershaves contain glycerin as it is not the best IMO but is preferred by many. Glycerin is in Avocado Oil Balm, Bay Rum Balm, Hydro Aftershave Splash, Lime Aftershave Milk, Oakmoss Lavendula AS Cream and Tony's Choice.

Great input! and from the manufacturer herself!

Does the Rose also have a touch of menthol?

What is the Blue line's scent like? is it similar to Floid Blue and/or Aqua Velva?

The Savory Rose Splash has slight menthol for cooling but it is a single note rose and lingers. The SR Milk does not have menthol.

Sorry, I can't help you on the comparisons.

It's not that I don't care for glycerin, I just think there are better moisurizers available. Glycerin is pretty inexpensive and readily available so I think that may add to it's popularity. For instance if you have very dry skin, glycerin will make your skin feel better temporairily.

Use of a dry oil such as tamanu or emu will moisturize without being greasy or tacky.

These oils are well known for their characteristics. I can't really say that they will perform in a certain way or accomlish a particular need. To state claims of that nature; the product would contain an "Active Ingredient" and be considered a drug by FDA standards.

Tamanu and Emu oils are not readily available like glycerin and are of different price points. About 16 ounces of cosmetic grade vegetable glycerin is around 4 bux, the same amount of quality grade Emu, $50+ and Tamanu over $100.

Walmart shirt or Brooks Brothers?

Never thought about cucumber, we have avocado which is in the same family of scent.

Ah. Then what is left on my face by the Med Citrus anyway? I thought it was glycerin. But SOMETHING remains. I guess that's what I was getting at. Now that I look at the ingredients - perhaps castor oil?

Hydrogenated castor oil is an emulsifier and is somewhat solid. It is used to blend oil and water so that it does not separate. Panthenol is what feels nice on your skin. Using too much of any SCS aftershave will result in tacky. We don't water it down although this can easily be done. You would not know, you'd just need to use more to get good results.

It's been too long since I've smelled Floid Blue, Josh, but Blue Line doesn't smell at all like AV. Blue Line has a very light and clean menthol scent, that's about it. Very fleeting, which I personally appreciate.

Thanks!

I love SCS Lavender. I wish it were a little stronger, but otherwise it is great.

You may not know it but lavender is a touchy oil. It is more prone to cause sensitivity in both essential and fragrant oil. I've used lavender cuttings from my backyard plants to make oil. The cuttings make my arms (hands up to the elbow) break out in a red angry itchy rash. The oil was very nice though . I've since had the plants removed, they are pretty invasive.

I was researching tamanu and stumbled across this thread. Was wondering what the difference between cosmetic grade tamanu oil and the tamanu oil listed here might be (http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/search/search.php?refine=y&keywords=Tamanu+oil ). Seemed like a bit of a difference between $33 per 16oz and $100 per 16oz. Just wanted to know if I should be looking out for the cheaper variety when shopping around for products with tamanu in them.

Thanks.
