Routine maintenance of slim adjustable

I have an H4 slim adjustable that I bought from a member on here recently and it looks and works beautifully. I mean, this thing looks almost brand new. I can't seem to find anything about routine maintenance to keep the mechanisms clean and working properly. I love this razor and definitely want it around for a very long time (I already plan to buy at least one more if (when) this one finally stops adjusting right or just falls apart.

Rinse/dunk in isopropyl alcohol and dry well (hair dryer?), bit of light machine oil on the moving parts.Thats what I do anyway if I'm putting a razor away for a while or changing rotations.

I don't really rotate my razors. I used a Gillete knack until I bought my EJ89L. I used that until I got my slim adjustable. They were all daily razors while they were used.

Thanks for the advice.

I had a hard time turning the TTO the last 1/4 turn to lock it. The suggestions I got were to soak it in vinegar and water solution. That worked at first, but when everything dried out it got hard to turn again. I sprayed some WD-40 on both ends of the knob and now it turns great.

I have read that you should be careful about WD-40 on the adjustment numbers though as it may remove the paint.

I use Ultra-Pure oil which is a synthetic non-toxic oil sold for use on trumpet valves. I am very reticent to put petroleum product (gasoline) near my skin!

I use a Slim everyday.

when the shave if finished, I rinse, then remove the blade. Then I dry the Slim with a paper towel, and pat dry the blade with a cotton towel. Then I replace the blade in the razor and leave the doors somewhat loose, then put the razor back in its holder.

I don't know whether this will keep it working forever or not, but so far, so good. Mine, too, looks like it just came out of the factory last week, and I'd like to keep it that way. Water spots are the hardest things to get rid of, which is why I dry it every day.

When I use a Slim, my routine consists of dunking it in hot water and shaking vigorously for a few seconds. Maybe every 6 months or so hit it with some Scrubbing Bubbles if I get bored one day.

Seriously, these things are tanks. Don't drop it, don't leave it dirty when you're done with it, wipe it down with a towel whenever you change the blade and it'll still be like new a decade from now.

should last forever with that routine!

+1 . . . that's what I do!

+1, I'm with Chris on this. As long as it's clean and dry there should be no problems.

AFAIK, Gillette never lubricated any razors during manufacturing, so WD-40 is probably a bit excessive. If you live in an area with particularly hard water, some lime-scale remover (general bath/shower cleaner) should be sufficient. If I use any lubricant on a razor it's only unscented baby oil.

One thing to watch with Slims (and Fatboys), don't adjust them after you've made the last 1/4 turn...it stresses them. Also, just to be safe, I loosen mine after use.
