What's new

New to B&B but not to shaving

I started wet shaving maybe 20 years ago or so after watching my grandfather using his Gillette DE. He told me it was his second one after he lost his original one. He allegedly owned this one for over 50 years and when he passed away that was all I asked of his items. It is well loved and used as he shaved daily until his death. I shaved with it and it was the most mellow shave ever for me.

I ended up buying EJ89 as my first DE at the time, got a Gillette Slim Adjustable and another Gillette Tech (lost this). I worked in Italy for a year in 2012 and ended up getting a Fatip Piccolo and tons of shave creams/soaps.

I got bored and tried a Whipped Dog sight unseen straight razor from Larry and bought all the supplies for using a straight. It took me a while but I got the hang of it. Fast forward to 2016 and I ordered a huge custom western kamisori and got a strop and honing setup. It is decent shaver but very heavy overall. Looks like a huge letter opener.

In 2017, I went back to using electric razors as I was headed to the Police Academy and needed a fast way to shave daily and on the go. I been using various Braun shavers.

More recently, I found my soaps which I wasn't sure about and I found all my old DE's in a ziplock.

I shaved today with my favorite blades, Bic Chromes in my Slim adjustable on setting 4 and it has spurred my interest again in wet shaving. I see that so many brands have appeared and that now they are way more choices than ever.

I have an Omega boar bristle brush (the paint chipped all away so I dont even know the model), Semogue owners club brush and a custom bushcraft brush. I started with the Walmart special but I lost in all the moving as well.

Going to look at all the new brands that have popped up in the last 10 years and see what I can get my hands on. I did notice the huge price disparities on all the new materials as well.

I am hoping to try an injector razor, se razors, newer DE razors and get another straight razor as the past one is MIA.

The rabbits are coming, watch out for their holes.

Welcome to B&B. Hang around long enough and you’ll want one, or maybe two, of everything.

Welcome. I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in your Grandad's razor, what is it? My Grandad used a Gillette Fatboy, but he passed when I was overseas in the Air Force, that razor is long gone, but it would have been a nice momento of him.

Just checked it. Code is Y3 so after googling shows its a 1953 Gillette TTO.
Attached some photos, he bought it new and used it until 2016 when he passed. So way over 50 years.

Hi @thinbluesars welcome to B&B from Perth Australia.

enjoyed reading your journey through wet shaving.
Vintage Gillettes clean up really well, a toothbrush and mild soap will have your razor looking new.
