Would anybody be willing to do this test? (how many shaves)

I have searched the forum, but I could not find anything similar. My apologies if I am mistaken.

I have been doing it for some time and I think I have reached some conclusions. However, I am interested in seeing what other members may find.

The test would work only if you alway include the final pass against the grain (ATG), in your routine.

It’s going to be very simple, it will just take some time, depending on how often you shave, and how many times you feel you need to repeat the test before forming your opinion. It may take several weeks. For me it was very simple because I always use two razors, so I did not have to change my routine significantly.

This is what you will need:

- Two DE razors (honestly, the same test could be done with SE razors/blades, but it would take a longer time).

- At least three DE blades, same brand. The brand should be chosen among the ones you use most often, you like them, you know them, especially how often you have to change them. You will need more blades in case you want to repeat the test multiple times (as I did). You can also perform the test with more than one brand (as I did).

This is what you will do.

1) Load the razors with two fresh blades.
2) Use razor (A) ATG only.
3) Use razor (B) WTG and/or XTG, only.
4) When you feel that the blade in razor (A) needs to be replaced, don’t toss it. Toss instead the blade that is in razor (B) and load razor (B) with the used blade from razor (A).
5) Load a new blade in razor (A).
6) Repeat 2 to 5 until you think you know how many shaves you can have before loading a fresh new blade, by following this method.

Di you get more, or less, or the same number of shaves that you usually get from the same blades, when used in the classic way?

As I mentioned, I have already reached some conclusions, and obviously they are positive, otherwise I would not bother other members with this test 😊.

I do it regardless. I was doing it before this "test". One is mild, for the last pass against the grain, the other one is more aggressive for WTG and XTG. It the same thing I used to do when I was using a Gillette adjustable, by reducing the gap between the first two passes and the final one ATG.

Yesterday’s shave.

Lol, that would be fun, but I only shave ATG even with a straight. Most of my beard hair appears to grow parallel to my skin, so shaving with the grain just puts a sharp point on it and doesn't remove much.

Been shaving this way since 1975.
