Rorschuck dealing with storms/hurricane

According to a recent email Chuck had some bad weather come through
his Southern Illinois town strong winds etc he says he has no power till Thursday.Just sending my regards to one of B&B's finest

I got that email as well. Sounds like a major league storm there with little coverage by the national media. Keeping him in my thoughts.

Thanks for posting this, jbaca, and to everyone else who sent best wishes. For those who don't know, on May 8, some pretty bad weather hit Southern Illinois and the surrounding region (where I live). I've been through three tornados and a typhoon, and I've never seen anything like this. I can only describe it as a hurricane (it's been compared to a Class 2 hurricane, and some have termed it (correctly or not) an "inland Hurricane"; I cannot even begin to fathom what a Class 3 or 4 would be like). It was certainly like nothing this region has ever seen, and we get our share of tornados. I'm quite certain Doc4 and his insidious infernal inferior panbreads had something to do with it, but I can't prove it -- yet.

Anyway, we lost power that morning, and didn't get it back for 6 days, on the 14th. My internet access, of course, went with the power, so I dropped off the grid for a bit; apologies to those who've been waiting on questions to be answered or details to be finalized, and to all the C&S 88 split participants, for dealing with delay after delay. The phones (and my naked DSL) are still not back up in my area (we have many many trees), but I've bought a smartphone and managed to get on the 'net, finally, and am just about caught up on everything, which means getting back to this wonderful place and being able to harass you great folks.

So far as I know there was only one death directly attributable to the storm, though a flood of chainsaw injuries and falling-off-the-roof injuries inevitably followed in the aftermath.

While I had a mess of large trees on my house and all over my yard, we escaped mostly unscathed. There are some holes in the roof, but so many people were so much worse off that I consider myself extremely lucky; many people were displaced.

Some of us have taken to calling the storm "Hurricane Blago" after our former, uh, "esteemed" Governor.

Without any further ado, the aftermath of Hurricane Blago:
