Rooney 1/2 Vintageblades vs Duke 3

Historically, Rooney brushes have been more consistent than Simpsons. Rooney Super Silvertip is very soft: in my examples, significantly softer than Simpson best. The density of the Rooney might be a little lower, but they are pretty close. Anyway a fan shape tends to look and feel a little less dense than a bulb or hybrid.

The last time I handled a T&H brush made by Rooney, I did not find it any denser than my Rooney in Super. But I did not have them side by side. Gents who have the T&H-branded Rooney brushes seem happy with them.

But adding to your questions, is Rooney still making T&H brushes? There were rumors that T&H had changed vendors. The photos on the T&H web site still look like Rooney brushes to me, but I do not know where things stand. Previous discussions are sprinkled with words like "allegedly" and "I am not sure".

The Rooney is going to be softer than the Duke. If you want soft I'd get that brush. Also, the Rooney knot will seem larger because of the way it is shaped. It will bloom more. I also happen to find the 1/2 handle extraordinarily comfortable. Don't get me wrong, the D3 is very nice brush but I think the Rooney has a little more bang for the buck. I haven't tried the T&H branded brushes but there was a rumor that Rooney was no longer going to make them.

No tattoo mistakes!
Trigger cocked and ready.

How do they compare to say a regular Stubby 2?

Not sure what you mean my regular? 2-band or 3-band?

A 1/2 will have a 3-band Silvertip knot. I haven't noticed any new Stubby 2s offered with 3-band knots since Classic Shaving sold some that were NOS last year. I'd expect the 3-band Silvertip in a 1/2 to be softer than the hair in a 2-band Heritage knot. Dimensions and shape would also be different. The Stubby 2s I've seen with 2-band knots have been more fan (or hybrid) shaped, whereas 1/2 will be more bulb-shaped. A Stubby in 2-band will have more backbone and be scrubbier. Density might be fairly comparable, but a 2-band knot with density comparable to a 1/2 3-band knot will behave, perform, and feel different. And the price will be very different.

Hoping it looks like this :)

I had two some while back. The first was dense and scrubby, the second was loosie-goosie. Tell Jim what you're looking for and he'll pick one out.

Hi Bryan: You are such an enabler. As a member of GRUC2013 who plans on winning, I'm gonna live through you. That is a sexy looking brush. Enjoy, my friend.

I try and corrupt those with such intentions. Muhaha. I will be sure to let you know how fantastic it is.
