I am DE guy and I just won an auction on the Bay for a Rolls Viscount and I am just wondering where to go from here.
From the pictures the Strop looks to be in good condition aside from one small nick. The Stone which I am assuming is the gray looking underside appears to be in good condition as well.
I have some mink oil that I use on shoes and from what I have read on this forum I can use this on the strop if needed. My question is how do I know if the strop is in need of some oil? Should the strop feel almost like sand paper? Also the should any water be on the stone when I hone the blade (like a wet stone for a knife?)
Like I said earlier I am a DE guy so the world of honing and stropping is very new to me. Any tips and insight would be greatly appreciated.
