Return of the Glue Spots

Yes, yes, i have read all the threads about the Irridiums and the infamous glue spots which I simply overlook when I use the Irridiums and then carefully clean the razor after I have removed and discarded the bade.

But, preparing for the morn, I just put an Astra superior Platinum (my first Astra, a givt from a well-meaning friend) in my tomorrow razor and what did i see? RIGHT!!!! I saw the same four glue spots I always see on the Irridiums.

Hmmmmm

As usual, just run hot water over the razor and that should get rid of them. Considering they're made at the same plant, it's expected the "glue spots" will be there.

Although I have not looked for a lot number nor kept track of when I received my Iridiums from whom, I have noticed over the last dozen or so that the glue spots seem to have been moved back away from the edge. Now I don't even have to take the trouble to rinse them in hot water. Nice!!

If they are made with the same quality and attention as the Irridiums, I'll love them

Out, damned spot! out, I say! One; two: why, then, ’tis time to do ’t. Hell is murky! Fie, my lord, fie! a soldier, and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account? :sneaky2:

Let us know what you think of the Astra as compared to the Iridium. If they are both the made at the same plant, I wonder if they are the same blade repackaged.

No glue spots on the Personna, Hospital grade blades.
They actually glue paper to paper on the folds!

Imagine that.

I will do that, although I am not the best judge. Often my favorite is the plade I last used from my regular rotation of Feather, Kai, Irridium, Red Personna, occasional Bluebird.

And now there are three or four others I have that I need to try.

Sadly, they are not. The Irridium is a touch smoother, and seems to have a longer life according to many. I personally only get average shaves with them. The Astra, however . . . BBS every time. Probably a touch sharper than the Iridium, but I can only use one three times before I have to toss it.

I toss everything after three shaves.

Interestingly, over the past several months, I've discovered I know some people here who have switched to the Astras or, in a few cases, Medical Personnas; the latter I expect to test within a week or two.

To quickly sum up my personal experiences, the Astra Superior Platinum blades are not as good as the Super Iridiums. They are not quite as smooth or as sharp. However, considering their cost they are a good blade. The Astra Superior Stainless blades are a touch sharper than the Astra Superior Platinum blades.

I used the Astra today in my Progress and it was ..... great. If tomorrow's shave is equally good, I'll order some. I judge it as equal, at least, to the Irridium. But my Astra experience is currently limited to one blade.

And I am notoriously fickle.

Glad the first run went well for you.
I think I finally found my blade in the Astra SP. I used three separate Astra blades in my three razors (Slim, 38C, EJDE89L). It was great in each for three shaves (I also toss after three).
