I know that when trying new stuff, the best thing is just to swap one thing at a time. That way you can see the effect of what's changed.
So with that firmly in mind, I just shaved with the following combination:
Gillette 1966 Super Speed
Simpsons Duke 3 in best badger
Personna Prep blade "For hospital use"
Mike's Barbershop soap
Distilled water
Marco's Method
The last four were all new to me, I've only just taken delivery of my Mike's soaps, I've had ten sample Prep blades and up until now, I've always used our very hard tap water. I picked up a 5l bottle of distilled water today so I warmed a bowl in the microwave and used that, I still used tap water to rinse the razor but everything else was distilled. I've never used Marco's method of lathering before.
The result.
An amazing comfortable and smooth shave. I had just enough lather for three passes and a touch up but 'just' enough is enough, any more would be overkill. I always shoot for BBS and there's no doubt that I've got it this time.
The scent from the soap was very pleasant, I used TOBS Shaving Shop aftershave balm and then a splash of aftershave lotion and they really seem to complement each other nicely. I'm looking forward to using the other Mike's soaps I have.
I'll try the Prep blades in my other razors but initial impressions are certainly good.
