"OfThriceAndTen claimed a "classic man" would value a good-quality fountain or ballpoint pen."

We're all "classic men," here on B&B. :biggrin1:

For most of the people I know on Reddit, the list works out pretty good, some wouldn't know what to do with tires while others would be confused to end up with scotch or cigars.

The list is OK,
But It depends on who you are shopping for.
I have a acquaintance who is in desperate need of some yard work, but giving him a chain saw is pointless he has not done yard work in 45 years and is not about to.

I don't smoke. so I would not have a use for cigars.

I love fountain pens, and have quite a few. Do I need another one ?
the only ones I would want at this point are high end.

gift card's annoy me. They limit my choice of what I can get to
one the stores merchandise and two the amount on the card.

I have flash lights, I don't know of a man who does not have a bunch.

don't drink coffee.

not big on concerts either.

tires are a interesting idea. but not much of a Christmas's present.

don't drink.

there was not a single shaving product on that list at all!

Most would be confused with what to do with a live woman, heck live person, from what I seen.

I thought the list was interesting. Not everything on it would do for me, I would be happy with most of the list. This year I made up a big list of possible ideas (that did include shaving stuff) to choose from. Although anything that the wife and kids get me will be warmly appreciated.

The stereotypical nerd is only a small part of Reddit actually, there are lots of people that have full lives outside their parents basements with relationships, careers, and the ability to talk in a crowd of people not in cosplay.

The people of 4Chan on the other hand...

On that list, tires seem kind of like a bad gift. Everyone needs tires sure, but there isn't much to enjoy.
Everyone needs a fountain own or two.

now that you mention that tires seem to be kind of a bad gift I think of the Monkeys in the zoo.
they get tires and bits of burlap, and yet they seem happier than us with our smart phones.

Getting a good set of tires would be so awesome for chirstmas, I ahve about one summer left on my all-seasons. Though I can see that it would be a better gift for a person into cars and trucks or at least uses theirs for more than the daily commute.

My wife once bought me a carburettor for an early 70s BSA, that was an excellent present. As for scotch and cigars an utterance of pure genius. The tyres also an excellent present, if you have grown up children the chances are that you might have everything you want or need, so this present is excellent, it saves the recipient a whole lot of money and the effort of buying new himself.
