Quick Tabac question

I finally received my latest internet order that included some Tabac shaving soap I have been dying to try. One little problem. I ordered a regular soap refill (for bowl) and actually received a shave stick refill. I checked and there is only a slight difference in quantity and I had already planned to place it into a glass bowl with a lid. I thought about just grating up the stick and being done with it. Then I got to thinking while cutting grass...Does anyone know if the formulation is different? I thought I remembered hearing somewhere where shave sticks could "ruin" badger brushes and thus it was recommended to use synthetic brushes with shave sticks. Is this true?

I really don't want to go through the hassle for a replacement product and the wife will hit the roof if I make another order right now. What to do?

Shave sticks are meant to be used with badger brushes. There is no difference in the formula that I know of. I wouldnt grate it, just use it as a stick. Rub on your face for face lathering or rub it on your brush to bowl lather

I just grated a tabac stick. It works better this way, i can load the brush much better than if i rub it to my face.

I own both the stick and bowl, they are both the same great soap. The different formula is between soap and cream, and I hear the cream smells a tad different, but I only own the soap. Tabac is my all-time favorite. Try it as a stick for a while, then try grading it down. BTW, the stick is smaller than the bowl, so if they charged you for the bowl make sure they give you a return.

I've used other than badger, just saying. I will say if you paid more for the soap refill to get some money back.

Soap is soap is soap. Tabac is Tabac is Tabac.

The Tabac stick is the same soap as the Tabac puck. Go ahead and grate (don't melt as tallow soaps, don't melt well).

Enjoy, Tabac is great stuff.

I have both. Just checked and ingredients are the same. I prefer Tabac in the bowl and will probably grate the stick when my bowls are empty. I only use badger brushes and don't see how soap or sticks could hurt it.

Thanks for the quick responses. For some reason I thought I read somewhere that you were not suppose to use badger brushes with shave sticks. Oh well...I've been wrong on more than one occasion before and I'm sure it won't be the last. Thanks.

Some shave oils are not designed to be used with natural brushes.
In those cases you can try a synthetic. But every shave soap can be used with every kind of brush.
Enjoy your Tabac!

Tabac will lather with any shaving brush, Badger, Boar, Horse, Synthetic and any mixture of the aforementioned. Enjoy!

I'm just curious to know if you paid the price of the puck and got the travel stick? If so you should get a refund.

In any case, I would contact the vendor. The good ones--which are all the vendors I've dealt with--will cheerfully and quickly correct any errors they've made, at no cost to you.

I like to use a shorter loft/scrubbier brush when I'm using a shave stick. It doesn't matter if it is badger or boar, as long as the brush has enough backbone to be able to face lather. I save my larger/floppier brushes for bowl lathering. Try various brushes and see what works best for you.

i used tabac cream, splash, and balm today.....i smell like a 70's disco and kinda like it.

will see if others say i stink or not.

this scent seems to linger more than any other aftershave products i have used.

If you use a stick the way it was meant to be used, any brush that works well for you in regards to face-lathering is your best bet. Some brushes have a little too much "skritch", making them unpleasant to face lather. You can actually get "brush burn" this way.

I find that sticks only work well for me if I have a couple days or more of growth on my face, since I don't have a heavy beard. More stubble=better loading.
