Question about traveling with shave soap?

:confused1:confused1:confused1While this may sound incredibly stupid, I have wasted enough time contemplating it because I am sure one of you has a great method. What the hell do I put soap in for travel? I want to take about 1/3 or 1/2 of my Tabac puck and obviously I would like something light, small, non breakable and preferably something with a good sealing lid. I will be gone about 6 weeks. What do you guys use? The other suggestions I could use concern my Merkur 11C and brush. Any ideas for those? Thanks much...........

After seeing someone else recommend these, I use one of these 1-cup pyrex containers. They ran just about 10 dollars I think for Four of them at the local Wally World. The ones I picked up had red lids.

I'd just get a Tabac shaving stick! Unless you don't want to face lather. It's what I use each day and I enjoy the convenience of the stick. Just toss is in your bag with your other stuff and your good to go.

I use a tube of Proraso when I travel as it is easy to transport. Usually when staying away there is at least one day of feeling like a pick me up in the morning (i.e. too much beer the night before) and proraso seems to put the body right again.

It is the only time I use shave cream in a tube or in fact the only time I use proraso - but it is a nice treat when I am away!

bam!

shaving sticks are perfect for travel

Tupperware or other plastic ware. On my recent vacation, I took my regular wooden bowl - I just wrapped rubber bands around it to keep the lid on.

Last trip, small plastic bowl with a snap on lid, about the diameter of a coffee cup, but not as tall. I face lather, but it would be possible to put the soap in the lid and lather in the bowl.

I've bought a couple of shave sticks as well though for the next trip.

Shave sticks are great for travel provided they either come in or you can come up with a container for them, you can even just wrap them up when dry in tin foil. La Toja has one of the best shave stick/container combos on the market, a very decent soap to boot!

Edwin Jagger and Muhle both have travel soaps in plastic containers with screw-on tops. I have both and they seem pretty sturdy and would have no issues travelling with them.

For your brush an often free large prescription medicine bottle from a pharmacy. Drill a few holes in the lid and your done. For your razor a small mp3 player case works well. The one I got came in a pack for a sansa fuze, is hard and the netting for the ear buds holds a pack of blades. Holds an HD perfectly.

I mill my soaps into 1/2 cup gladware containers and face lather with my dovo travel brush. I travel for a living and this is what I have found to be the easiest setup. Also if you want to bowl lather, Target makes a small bubbled glass dipping bowl for around $2 that the gladware containers fit into perfectly for compact storage in your shaving kit. I went ahead and took some quick snapshots. (Sorry for the rotten lighting)

+1 on shave sticks

+1 on a small container to put the soap in (from Target, IKEA, etc.)

or,

Cut a piece out of your tabac and use that wedge as a shave stick.

Mama Bear Soaps sell 4oz. plastic travel containers for $1.80 + shipping.

I recently bought some soap there and just loaded up on these puppies. I remember shipping being reasonable. They're inexpensive, they're plastic, I've milled ALL my soaps into them, and they come with screw on lids. Works great at home and on the road. Plus, you don't have to pay for the wooden bowl when buying soap, just buy the refill puck and mill it into one of these pup dogs.

Oh... also WCS sells a travel brush tube for something close to $5 click me

I use this when I'm traveling. I like it because its economical and you can choose whichever brush you'd like to travel with instead of buying a specific brush that you travel with.

Other people use pill bottles (the big ones that you can get at the drug store), or I've heard people use cardboard toliet paper rolls.

I haven't figured out what to do for my razor yet, but alot of vendor's sell "travel" cases or leather pouches. Should be easy to find, especially since you have a merkur.

Thank you all for the ideas. I like the container that mama bears soaps sells! Looks like it might be the easiest. And the prescription pill bottle for the brush sounds like a good idea. Thanks again all.

O, almost forgot......good idea on the shave sticks as well, but I hate them. Don't know why, but I do. Ended up milling my Speick stick into a bowl. Thanks again.

I just go with Proraso soap in the tub when I fly. The container is small, has a snap on lid and fits into my shaving kit. Since I like Proraso I'm all set!

Rubbermaid makes a small tub with a screw on lid that is water tight. But it's twice as tall as a puck of soap so it may take up too much space in your luggage.

When I trave,l I choose a soap that comes in a metal or plastic container. Some that come to mind are Cella, Proraso (soaps, green or white tub), Pre de Provence, and Wilkinson's. The Cella and Pre de Provence containers have screw-on tops.
