Question about a Mantic video

In one of the video's, Mantic says to only shave downward for the first week or so. Is that a suggestion to those new to wet shaving, or just to DE shaving.

I've never used an electric razor and wet shaving for years although not correctly. Would it benefit me and other newblets to only shave WTG and make no ATG passes?

I would suggest going WTG for your multi-passes to start. A DE blade is heavier than a regular catrtridge or disposable so there is a bit of a learning curve.

I believe it suggests that noobs may not yet have angle and pressure down pat and he doesn`t want people hurting themselves. If your technique is solid, give it a try.

My former shave was a Mach 3 single pass with a 1/2 day of irritation. After watching the videos, I could take my M3 with reduction passes and come out BBS every day with zero irritation.

I'm not one to pass up good advice, thats why I haven't tried ATG yet. Those are excellent videos.

I'm on my 5th DE shave, getting better and better every day.. Thanks

It may be wise to try XTG first, you may not need ATG.

Or you could ask me.

Cutter pretty much answered it, but let me explain a little more. Grain shaving is required with a multi-blade razor cartridge, and you can certainly shave that way with a DE. However, you can "cheat" a little with a DE by going either straight down or straight up with reduction passes as long as it "generally" follows the grain. Straight down passes allow the new DE shaver to concentrate on their technique (angle and pressure) without having to shave in all sorts of weird directions. In fact, for a long time after I learned to use a DE my first 2 passes were still straight down, followed by a straight up pass, then finally an "against the grain" pass.

This is a little confusing to me, because "straight up" for me is almost exactly ATG. I've been doing two XTG passes, one ear-to-chin and then one chin-to-ear.
