What's new

Proraso red- excellent.

Hi all.
Up until now I have been a soap user exclusively due to getting less than stellar lather from any cream that I had tried.
Some time ago a friend of mine (thanks Nick) sent me a sample of the red and I didn't give it much attention apart from taking a sniff of it and concluding that it smelt a little strange.
So I tried bowl lathering it (as I had always done in the past with creams) and got pretty good lather.
So I tried face lathering it and got even better lather.
So I've been using it for a week now and I can say its superb!
The lathers just as good as any soap i've used and I'm loving the scent as well.
I just squeeze a line of it on my index finger, wipe it into my brush and go to town on my face.
I will say that it takes a lot of water but it lathers up quickly and easily.
In the past I hadn't had much luck with proraso but this ones a winner.
Give it a try if you havent already.

I'm a big fan of Big Red! Especially now that winter is coming. It's really quite slick, moisterizing and can blast through a coarse beard. I actually like the Proraso Red Tub even better than the tube. I face lather and find is a tad slicker...

You should give that a try also. Conversely, I shaved with Blue today and got stellar results as well.

I can't get enough of Proraso products. They are my favorite!!!

As much as I like the Proaso Green, the red sandalwood tube is simply superb. Like the OP, my first encounter with it left me puzzled about the scent. From the first lather on, it was one of those wonderful WOW! shave experiences.

I just ordered a jar of the red yesterday, and now I really cant wait to get my hands on it. The wait is really gonna be torture now!

I tried the old formulation green tube and my face didn't agree with the menthol and/or the eucalyptus.
After having better luck with soaps I tried the white in the tub and it was much better but still a bit thin and lacked protection.
I think this is due to my Silvertip being very soft and oddly it struggles to pick up croaps and even with hard soaps I have to load for a good minute.
So I am a little hesitant about picking up the red in the tub when the tube is working so well.
The tube also speeds up the overall shave due to less loading time and that's a plus when time is short.

proraso is indeed a great cream! and amazing value!
i've enjoyed it.
only thing, after several uses, my tube is leaking at one of the 'rolls' toward the bottom!
i had to store it in a baggie just to contain any leakage!

I'm with you here!!! I must say that honestly I prefer some of the scents of my other creams a bit more, although I still think the proraso red has an awesome scent, but the proraso red is just so dependable! It just works, with very little effort, every single time without fail. If I'm ever in a hurry or need to ensure the utmost in protection when using a particularly aggressive razor or blade, RED is definitely where I reach.

If you've never tried it, you should - you'll love it. At least I do.

I've broken through the bottom of the small amount of soap left in my Proraso Green tub so can soon turn to the red. Have used my red tub a couple times. Must say that I'm disappointed in the scent, but the performance might indeed surpass the green, and I love proraso green.

That is indeed a fantastic pic!
One of the best I've seen on here!

The other good thing about the red is that the scent lingers on the brush and builds up over time enhancing that awesome sandalwood fragrance.

For a long, long time I used Proraso Red exclusively. It is a great, consistent performer. As someone else mentioned, the scent might not be authentic sandalwood, but over time the scent builds on your brush and makes your brush smell fantastic. It's a scent that definitely grows on you. I didn't dislike it at first by any means, but over time it became a favorite. Still the only sandalwood scented creme I've tried, nearly 3 years into traditional DE shaving.

The other great thing is that being a cream its great when time is short.
No loading time, just squirt and go.
The design on the tube looks great also-old school and classic.
