Proraso/C.O. Bigelow lather and hard water

I live in Savannah, GA where we have very hard water. I bought a tube of Bigelow about a month ago and I can't get a good lather and I think I have tried everything. I don't have a problem with VDH soap or JM Frasers cream or Lucky Tiger Brush Shaving Cream. Could it be the water?

I doubt it's the water. I have very hard water, and have not had any problems with Proraso. Are you sure you're using enough cream? I know the standard around here is "an almond sized dollop," but I find that to be insufficient. I use something more like a teaspoon for Proraso.

If you suspect that it is the water, buy some filtered water at the grocery store and see if using that instead makes a difference.

No reason not to experiment. Take some distilled water or bottled water, heat it up and use that. If it is still insufficient lather use more Proraso/CO Bigelow.

I never have that problem in Ohio,

John

I have only used Proraso to this point so I don't have much frame of reference but we have pretty hard water here in Austin as well I believe. I started getting great results when I started adding a bit more of the cream. I needed to add perhaps a third more cream than I had been using. I am going to try distilled water at some point and probably will experiment with more soaps etc. but I'd give a shot at adding more and more cream and see if you can get the results you're looking for.

Use 2x (at least) the cream, and add water a little at a time as needed until you get the lather you want.

I've gotten to the point where I know just how much water to shake out of my brush, but it took me a while to get there and I'd need to experiment if I changed brushes.

It appears as though I may not have been using enough cream. I'll increase the amount of cream. If that doesn't work, I'll try the bottled water.

I don't think it's the water Verbal - mb soft water would make BETTER lather but I wouldn't say hard water prevents a good later...
