How do I lather Abbate Y La Mantia hard soaps?

I’m having a hard time lathering AYLM Fufluns hard puck soap. Which variables should I change while lathering it compared to North American artisan soaps? I’ve tried both a badger brush and a synthetic, loading heavy, loading little but with no luck. Too much water, and it becomes bubbly; too little, and it dries on my face. For the record, I don’t have this problem with Saponificio Varesino, which, like Abbate Y La Mantia, is also a triple-milled Italian vegetal soap.

Load more, add water slowly.

Bubbly usually means too much air, not enough soap. Be generous.

Although, keep in mind not every soap lathers like the low structure yogurt you get with American artisans. Doesn't make the lather any worse.

Try my "mug soap" shaving method detailed in via the link below. While this was a Williams shave this method works for other really hard triple and quad milled soaps like Mitchell's Wool Fat and PdP.

I haven't tried AyLM yet but I suspect trying the Saponifico Varesino Official Method is a good start:

(from memory)

Pour about 20 cc of HOT water over the puck and let it "stew" for 90s to two minutes, give or take.

Then, hold your dry brush upside down, squeeze the bristles tightly together in a choke-hold, and pour this bloom water off the puck INTO the tips.

Finally, use the now moistened brush to scrub up a good load of soap off the softened puck. This may take take a full minute; anything less than 40s is probably too lightly loaded.

From there, finish the lather in a scuttle or face lather, your choice. (Dipping the brush tips in warm water, as needed, until the soap isn't too thick). My measure of "not too thick" is when my fairly low pressure cold tap can fully clear the safety bar or comb teeth of soap after a pass. (If you want to be nerdy, or while learning: don't load your blade up yet, or use a different, empty razor to do that check.)

HTH,

Sorry, but I tried the old cream formulas...but I don't think I can trust this manufacturer anymore
I don't think hard soaps are that much of an improvement, at that price SV is always superior

I also tried one of their cream samples, which was terrible, like two years ago. My mistake was thinking that since this is a hard soap, it would be different base and everything, and bought a full tub. I give it chances 2-3 times a month and 3 months after my initial post here, and it is still terrible. The absolute worst of the worst, especially considering the price point. Kudos to the guy to have amazingly high marketing/quality ratio.
