Review of Proraso white pre shave cream.

I couldn’t find a topic on pre shave creams. So I hope it’s ok to post here in shaving creams topic. If not please let me know.

Proraso white pre shave cream

Made in: Italy 🇮🇹

Item description: (as per official site) “Specifically for sensitive skins, enriched with Oat and Green Tea Extract, it softens the beard, defending the skin against aggression by the razor and preventing rashes.”

Ingredients : Aqua (Water), Stearic Acid, Sorbitol, Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Potassium Hydroxide, Menthol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxhydrocinnamate, Limonene, Linalool, Citral, Hexyl Cinnamal, Geranoil, Citronellol.

Scent profile: na

What I think this stuff smells like: medicinal

First impressions: at first I thought this cream contained menthol but it’s the tea tree oil. Makes my eyes feel funny after applying to my face when it offgasses and wafts into my eyes. Does have a somewhat unpleasant cooling effect.

Final thoughts: all in all it is ok stuff but I think I’ll find something better.

Where I bought: was gifted to me by a kind friend.

I have a tub and use it, but I happen to like tea tree oil, so I find it pleasant and refreshing. That said, I don't use it daily, and I'm not 100% sure I've ever ascertained a significant benefit from using it as a pre-shave with my regular routine ( even if I am sure it doesn't hurt ). I do use it when I suspect I might have a challenging shave ahead of me - usually when I have to hurry my regular prep routine. I think then it does provide some small benefit.

I admit to really liking the glass container it comes in. When I empty it out, I will find some way to reuse it.

I honestly get better results with Noxzema (or the Equate version, which is like the older formula Noxzema). It's much more economical, too. There is also another Italian pre-shave cream called Prep. I like it better than Proraso.

Wash face with Noxzema and warm water. Rinse off. Put a little Noxzema on the whiskers along with a bit of water, leave on for a couple minutes while you do some chores, etc. Rinse most of it off. Lather your shave soap. Works very well and a 12 oz. jar costs around $3 or $4. You can also use it for bug bites, sunburn, etc. Scent is an acquired taste.

I like it if I haven't shaved for a week and my beard is too long. It really softens is and makes for a more comfortable shave.

The glass container is nice to look at. I also like to use beard oils.

I will have to look it up. What exactly is it? Is it just normal skin cream? Medicated cream? (think of calamine lotion)

The Proraso Green Pre-shave was the same way for me. The scent started to bother me as well. I PIF'd it to a friend.
I probably won’t like the menthol one then. Like I said earlier in this reply, i have lots of beard oils. So I’m not in danger of not having something to use as a pre shave.

It's most often used as a cleansing cream. It cleans your face without drying it out like soap can. It contains eucalyptus, menthol and a little camphor which have some skin care benefits, kind of like the Proraso Green pre-shave. It's a traditional product that has been around at least since the 1940's.

Many barbers used to use it as part of their prep for straight razor shaving. Ever seen pictures of guys in a barber chair with a towel wrapped around their head? :D

It can be used to treat sunburn, bug bites and skin irritation, too.

This is the current Noxzema:

Here's the ingredients on the Equate version, which is more or less the same as the original formula Noxzema. $3 for a large12 oz. jar.

I’ll have to try it. I will look on eBay or amazon Canada. Thankyou for suggesting it to me.

I don’t have easy access to a Walmart as I cannot drive and it’s a bit of a distance To my nearest Walmart. I haven’t memorized even 10% of my city’s bus routes. (Despite living here since 2013 lol.) There are a few drugstores near me. So I’ll have to check those.

I have the Walmart app and I am on the east coast of Canada. I looked and couldn't find this product. What is it called @NorthernSoul ? Equate Face cleanser?

FYI @CaptKirk1988 Shoppers Drug Mart may have it under the Life brand. They have Proraso white as well

I have some samples from the Shaver Shop, I wasn’t impressed.
I do always use a pre shave, but I get better results from either Pears soap or Trilux Goats milk.

The Wal-Mart version is Equate Cleansing Cream with Eucalyptus Oil. It is pretty good, like the older formula Noxzema. Around $3.

Here it is:

The original looks like this, around $4.50:

Since the container is so big, I usually transfer around 100ml to a small glass container I keep with my shaving soaps, etc.

You can also give Proraso's Blue label a try. They don't advertise it as a sensitive skin line, but rather a "protective." It's made with vitamin E and aloe like the Nivea sensitive shave cream that comes in a can that I used many years ago. The Blue label has a pre-shave cream as well. Might be worth a look. My skin is somewhat sensitive and I find Proraso's blue label products to work great, especially on my neck where I tend to get pretty much all of my irritation. I can't recommend their blue label products highly enough. They did wonders for my new to shaving nephew who was suffering from razor rash and ingrown hairs and acne using a cartridge and electric.

I have the Proraso Blue aftershave balm and consider it the best balm I have used so far. Perfect consistency, pleasant light scent that does not linger

I use Proraso White or Green pre-shave pretty much every day. I wish White came in a big tub like the Green.
I always have a jar of White and Green Pre-shave. I do not use it all the time, but mostly when I shave without a shower as apply after a hot face cloth to soften whiskers. I was not wild about the scent of the white at first but it quickly grew on me. I use the green mostly when I want to add a tingly feel to a non-menthol shave soap.

I have also used Proraso Red/Sandalwood preshave and the scent and texture is simply wonderful

Well, we hit the white, green, and blue! May as well hit the red! The Proraso red preshave cream is fantastic, and it is unlikely you’ll have any negative reaction to it. No cooling effect, but really moisturizes the face well, and has a light sandalwood scent. I use it if I did not shower pre-shave. Love, love, love it. I’ll not try anything else, I don’t use it every day and I’m so happy with it I don’t feel the need to experiment.
