Okay, I feel dumb, but I only use vintage razors so I guess my ignorance can be excused. What's the diff between a Progress and a Mergress? What's the big modification?

see any retailer for the stock version of the Progress with the plastic adjustment knob, then read this thread here the first page has the standard Mergress pictured but be sure to check out all the other custom Mergress'es(?) in the thread, some beautiful work
