Pinaud: Special Reserve = Eau de Quinine

I tried Special Reserve for the first time this morning. As I've gone throughout the day I can't help but notice a familiar scent which I PIF'd once before. Then it hit me...Special Reserve smells eerily similar to Eau de Quinine. Has anyone else noticed this?

Not to my nose, I get leather and something I can't put my finger on but definitely not Eau de Quinine. Of course you may be correct, my sniffer is sometimes a little off.

I think there's a sweet undercurrent to both that is similar but there are some differences as well. The Special Reserve smells smokey, oak-y and leathery. The Quinine smells more medicinal.

Special Reserve is awesome--probably the most reasonably priced superb fragrance I can think of (although Sex Appeal for Men and Grey Flannel are in the running). I like EdQ too, but it doesn't smell much like SR to me. In fact Pinaud EdQ doesn't smell much like Trumper's EdQ either. To me, EdQ smells a little bit like cola or Dr. Pepper syrup.

Haha! I described EDQ just like Dr Pepper when I pif'd it. On the front end SR doesn't smell just like it, but as the day went on all I could smell was sweet Dr Pepper

Eau de Quinine.

Not a Special Reserve fan so far. Only a couple splashes into the bottle, it will get one or MAYBE two more tries before it goes and lives with its cousin, Lilac Vegetal, under the sink...

I received a bottle of Special Reserve from the never ending PIF, I have only used or once so far. I'm not sure what I think of it. I guess I need to use it more often. It's just do hard not to reach for the Clubman.
