👉🏼 UPDATE TO "RULES". (I checked this idea with a Moderator and got the greenlight; just to get that out of the way first. 😁) Short version: if you are a Veteran/Active Duty, your entry now counts twice (see list below and it'll make sense). So if you have the
Active_Vet.png
logo next to your username, you're in 2x.

As someone who has personally been involved in the military (CAPT, USN (Ret.); served near Horn of Africa (Nigeria) and Guniea (Somalia) [Red Sea/Gulf of Aden] region during the Bush admin), proper grooming is essential (setting aside actual duties!), this is the least one can do (on here!) I feel. So, Vets now enter TWO numbers, everyone else one.

New list going forward:

BY THE WAY! Shaving in the military?!
  • Shaving in the military is more than a mere ritual of grooming; it's a crucial requirement rooted in practicality and tradition. The practice dates back to various historical periods (Civil War notwithstanding; mixed practices for various reasons), where soldiers were required to maintain a clean-shaven look for several reasons. Firstly, facial hair can interfere with the proper sealing of protective gear, such as gas masks. A tight seal is essential to ensure that no harmful substances can penetrate, and even a small amount of facial hair can compromise this seal, potentially putting the soldier's life at risk in a chemical or biological warfare scenario.
  • Secondly, maintaining a clean-shaven appearance is integral to military discipline and uniformity. It fosters a sense of unity and equality among service members, as personal grooming standards are applied uniformly across the ranks. This uniformity is not only about physical appearance but also about instilling a mindset of discipline and adherence to rules, which are vital attributes in a military setting.
  • Additionally, shaving in the military can be seen as a hygienic practice. In field conditions, where access to water and personal hygiene products might be limited, shaving helps in maintaining cleanliness and reducing the risk of skin infections.
  • Lastly, the clean-shaven look in the military carries historical significance, echoing the practices of past soldiers and maintaining a connection to the traditions and values of the military institution. This sense of continuity and respect for tradition is a key aspect of military culture.

I am in thanks. Not sure how to copy paste that vet symbol without being way too big btw.

@Balthier are you a Vet? (Or did you write that bc of the copy/paste issue logo being too big? To make the logo small, wait for the corner "handles" when you click on it, and "crop"/adjust down the size.

Maybe I'll just write "VET" to simplify everything. Yes, so, new list (LMK if you are a Vet)):
