Perma-Sharp Super

There are only a couple of reviews for this Turkish? blade. Anyone use them regularly, and if so any opinions as to how do they compare to a Swedish G or 7 O'clock Sharpedge.

I use them regularly. According to Melyus, the blades are not made in Turkey. They are made in the St. Petersburg plant along with the Iridiums and SharpEdges. They are as sharp as the Iridiums and SharpEdge's and I find them slightly smoother. Great blades all around!

I loaded my slant with one of these blades. Mine are made in St. Petersburg, it is written on the package. There could be also some NOS blades out there, these are made in turkey then.

I shaved four times with this blade and I think I really start to like them. Maybe I will order more of them.

And: Yes, mine have the 4 glue spots on them.

these are a top notch blade with the si's and yellow 7 oclocks. i have about 400 of these i bought from melyus.

How much did you happen to pay for the 400 perma sharp blades, and would you consider them better than the super iridiums or yellow 7 oclocks? Thank you very much.

i paid .28 per blade as melyus sells them for 28 dollars per 100 .for me they are just as good as the blades you have mentioned. the si and 7 o'clocks are the top notch blades for me and like i said these are rite there.

best thing to do is order a sample from melyus so you dont buy in bulk and not like them.

Price per blade on Perma Sharp's is pretty good for the amount of quality shaves one gets out of a blade. I just finished 4 excellent 3 pass shaves and could've pushed it but didn't. Quit while I was ahead with a great experience from this blade. I've read on B&B that some folks are getting 7+ shaves per blade, that just makes these blades an even greater value. With blades like this, I like them flying under the radar a little bit so prices don't go through the ceiling, just saying.

I don't think you'd have much to worry about with pricing. Silver Blue and Nacets are both highly spoken of, and can be had for $16 and $15 respectively. Actually, I kind of wish they'd get more attention, so perhaps a few more vendors would offer them. More vendors could even lead to a bit more competition in pricing.

The best I can dig up is that Perma-Sharp is made in St. Petersburg Russia for the Turkish market. I returned for a visit to Turkey recently. A typical drugstore commits maybe 1.5m shelf space to DE, the rest being goo and their various answers to carts and disposables. After brushes, bowls, soaps, creams, and YUMA razors that leaves room for maybe two DE brands, Perma-sharp always one of them. Some Turkish men have heavy-looking dark beards. If Perma-sharp cuts it for them, it likely cuts it for anyone.
I have some in rotation. Personally I do not perceive much difference among blades. I have had some good shaves with Perma-sharp, some excellent ones, just like other brands. Some positive reviewers say they got extra longevity out of them, but I seldom try to go past 5 or 6 shaves. For daily BBS, I need just as many passes and touch-ups with Perma-sharp as with any of the others. Some blades work better than others on several days growth, but since I shave daily I do not get any chance to find such differences.
You can find more reviews for Perma-sharp if you start from google.com and search "perma-sharp blades review". Amazon and Maggard have reviews. Perma-sharp seems to consistently rate 4 1/2 to 5 stars.
Compared to cartridges, nearly any DE is cheap. Being only $5 to $8 past the lower price points for 100 blades, They are well worth adding to the BAD-driven collection.

I've just got hold of some NOS Perma-Sharp Supreme blades that were made in Britain -- possibly Scotland. I'll have to see how they stack up against the Gillette Super Silvers I'm using atm.

Carlsberg1664,

I have some Russian PermaSharp Stainless, and they do not have the usual four glue spots - they have two thin 'blobs' of glue (about 3/8 inch wide) on each side close to the central cut out.

Have fun :)

Best regards

Russ
