Souplex "Combless" • 7 O'Clock Yellow
IMG_20240821_172912580.jpg

Broke out a new blade for this interesting Souplex "Combless", produced by the wonderful Morecambe firm sometime in the 1930s. The British patent that it uses was registered by none other than Paul Müller of Mulcuto, Solingen in 1931, following on from his 1929 German patent.

Marketed by Mulcuto as the Nadelspitzen this is nothing less than a British Needlepoint! Souplex also produced a Double Six version of the Combless for a while, but it certainly seems that there are far more of these bakelite cases in circulation than the razors!

Another very good shave with the yellow. I seem to recall using a green many moons back and not being very impressed, and I've never acquired any blacks, but these are always in my rotation. Just a good, reliable "all-rounder" of a blade that works well for me in nearly every razor.

Razor: Yates Precision Stainless Winning
Blade: Gillette 7o'clock Super Platinum (1st use)
Brush: Omega 10810
Soap: Pino Silvestre
Alum: Nice Cool
Aftershave: Quorum Silver

Nice shave today, quite close and smooth, but some irritation popped up afterwards (I think that's just user error on my part). Felt similar if not sharper than an Astra SP.

I got a 7 0Clock Yellow out from a total new sleeve, this one looked shiny and new
Razor was Henson +++
Soap SV
Brush Simpsons 3X
Head and face shaves
This time it was very smooth 2+ pass and no residual burning after the shave. Good stuff, well kept.
Besides the brand new and shiny blade you also changed: razor, brush, soap. And you do not mention the AS used now. Also "2+ pass" (whatever that means) vs 3 pass with the previous blade. This all leads me to be sceptic that the reason for your irritation the first time was the oxidation on the blade.

7 O'clock Week - Gillette Yellow 7 O'clock SharpEdge

TL;DR -
Very good 1st shave, DFS+, and no drama dots, Yellow not as smooth as Black

Equipment: Ali X3-D2 Razor, Gillette Yellow 7 O'clock Blade (1), Ach Brito Mogno Soap

Gillette_Yellow_7Oclocks.jpg

Blade Observations: Where the GBSP (Black) had a stylish wrapper, the GYSE (Yellow) has a plain wax paper wrapper, with significant glue dots holding the blade in place. It does have very nice laser etching on the blade. Although the blade is from 2017, it was in new condition. (Maybe the glue dots act as a blade preserver, too?)

On To The Shave: It's only Shave #1 and most blades for me take at least 1 shave to get going. Loading up the GYSE into my Ali X3-D2 razor and laying down some very nice Ach Brito lather, the GYSE did a very good job, giving me a fairly smooth close shave in the DFS+ range. Although the Yellow feels like a step down from the Black, this feels like a very nice blade.

Another 7 O'clock shave. I seem to be getting better with the blade, but still not getting the results I'm used to with my normal rotation of blades. I did finish off another soap today. Firefighter is gone. This had been close to gone for a while and decided to finish it off this week.
