PDX pipe shops

Having noticed that there are few of us on the Brown Leaf forum from Portland, I thought I'd start something about the shops I've visited recently:

82nd Ave Tobacco & Pipes: Friendly sales staff; good selection of mid-to-low end pipes; a few Petersons and others in that price range; good selection of tinned and in-house blends in jars; lots of head-shop stuff.

Cascade Cigar & Tobacco: Small selection of nice, aged freehand briar pipes; decent array of Savenellis and mid- to low-end pipes; in-house blends in jars; very small (2?) selection of tinned pipe tobacco.

Rich's Cigar Store: The one on Alder St. is the real deal. Huge pipe selection, lots of Nordigs, Savenellis, Petersons, etc., with a lot high-end options from $250 up; big assortment of tobacco in tins, canisters and in-house jars; no head-shop stuff that I noticed; lots of magazines. This place is hands-down the best pipe and tobacco shop I've found so far.

Paul's Cigars (Beaverton): Medium selection of in-house jar blends, not much else pipe-wise.

Don't forget to check out House of Calabash in Oregon City.. cool place, awesome tobacco blends, and some nice pipes.

I went into Cascade a couple of months ago, and was really put off by the guy working there, as well as the little jars of dried out blends that had no smell.. the whole place smelled like a cigar ashtray, so it would have been hard to smell anything anyway. Once I said pipe, the guy wasn't interested in anything but the game on the tele.. he just kinda gestured toward the pipe section without making eye contact. I may stop back in to take a look at their pipes.. I didn't get that far last visit.

82nd avenue is a great place, I think.. Rich's has way more of a swank vibe, but I like the low-key thing just fine. I don't get downtown much anymore, so that's part of it for me.

There is also Timbervalley off of walker in Beaverton. They just started carrying tins, they have a wall of there own blends, and moderate amounts of pipes. This was my B&M for cigars... Nice to see them moving to pipes.

Hirsute

Used to have fun with Commander Yellow Pantyhose

That's good to know. I work over that way and haven't gone in because I read they didn't have much for pipes. I'll make a trip over one of these days and check it out!

Also, I concur that the downtown Rich's on Alder is excellent! They probably have 200-300
Pipes in stock and displayed, lots if house blends, and a good selection of tins. The magazine and newspaper selection is incredible, they have a decent selection of cigars, and a great selection of boutique cigs. Their locations in the Pearl and on 23rd aren't bad--much smaller, but they have some pipes and carry some of their house blends and a few tins.

Broadway Cigars hasn't been mentioned yet. I like that place--a nice selection (and different stuff than Richs) and a nice smoking lounge. I know others have been in there and didn't get much help, so perhaps it's better if you know what you want or like going in there. They used to have a cigar trailer--essentially a mini walk-in humidor--parked across from El Gaucho, which was way cool, but I haven't seen it in a while.
