I was born in '71, The Tarzan cartoon kept me on the edge of my seat, Land of the Lost used to scare the crap out of me(not a cartoon, but part of my childhood), Boomerang network keeps me up later than a responsible parent should be. Jonny Quest, Speed Racer, Godzilla(with Godzuki), Danger Mouse, Voltron, G.I. Joe, there's just too many to list that I would still watch. Oh, and of course the Herculoids, Used to be on at midnight here, but seems to have disappeared recently.:confused1

I don't recall ever being scared by a cartoon. Live action movies like Godzilla - yes; cartoons - no.

Rocky & Bullwinkle - I, too, did not understand that until I was much older, even though I watched it any time I could.

Jonny Quest has been on DirecTV in recent years. I saw one episode and regretted doing so; it was much better in my memory than what I saw as an adult.

Scared you..........
Skeletor from Masters of the Universe.

You didn't really understand until you were much older.....
not sure about this one.

That you'd watch if they were still on.....

1. Johnny Quest, definitely 2. The Pink Panther cartoons.

Keep in mind, a lot of what I saw were old reruns, since I was born in '77. But through the '80s and into the mid '90s, nearly all networks showed reruns of the old cartoons. TBS, TNT, USA and a few others showed a lot of the old cartoons, and that's how I know what some of them are. I did grow up watching new episodes of GI Joe, Transformers and a few others.

Scared you..........
Most of the villains in Disney movies

You didn't really understand until you were much older.....
Rocky and Bullwinkle - to be honest I still don't really get it

That you'd watch if they were still on.....
Robotech

Having been born in 1947, many of the loony tune cartoons I saw as a kid were of the WWII era with Hitler and Tojo the object of Bugs Bunny's scorn.

Popeye, Tweety Bird, Mighty Mouse, Heckel and Jeckel, and Tom and Jerry were a definate presence also.

Rocky and Bullwinkle (a graduate of Whatsamatter U) were always at the top of my list, as well as Woody Woodpecker.

I don't recall any that had frightning aspects, and I imagine I didn't understand some of the finer points.

You can add The Adventures of Davey and Goliath to my "would still watch" list. Almost forgot that one.

Scared me?

None, really. No matter how terrible the villian, the formula was the same. The good guys always won. There were some nasty characters and monsters on Jonny Quest, and I remember and episode of Casper the Friendly Ghost where the Tree Men attacked some people who lived on the moon, but the end was always the same.

Didn't understand until I was older?

Good cartoons have a multi-layered appeal. I think the colors and slapstick action appeal to you when you are younger, and you appreciate and get another laugh out of the inside jokes and references made in the classics when you are old enough to understand them. It evolves further when you start to see similarities between everyday institutions, social conventions, and even people you encounter and interact with on a day to day basis, and what you see in a cartoon. I still pick up jokes I hadn't seen before when I re-watch the classics.

That I'd still watch if they were on?

Thanks to DVD, I still can. My collection is quite large, and I'm constantly looking for new releases. I have all the Looney Tunes, Jonny Quest, The Pink Panther, Woody Woodpecker, the Flintstones... the list goes on.

Scared me:

The face inside the book in the Care Bears movie

Didnt get until older:

I watched Looney Tunes reruns constantly when I was a kid, I didnt get a lot of the old school celebrity and current (when it aired) event references until I was older.

Would still watch now:

Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry and the Hnnah Barbara Olympic ones

Scared you..........
dont remember any scaring me.

You didn't really understand until you were much older.....
Rocky and Bullwinkle

That you'd watch if they were still on.....
1. Looney Tunes
2. Jetsons

Scared: maybe Dr. Doom from the Fantastic 4. He was the prototype for Darth Vader after all.

Didn't Get: Bullwinkle without question. And when i did (high school) it gave me my provisional college choice (University of Whatsamatta aka Whatsamatta U) until I actually selected a college.

Would Still Watch: I still watch Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry and a whole bunch more with my kids. Would live to see more Bullwinkle and Under Dog (his poetry was ahead of it's time- "the secret compartment of this ring I fill with an Under Dog super energy pill" - what was in those pillls?) if they were on.

close... Bullwinkle attended Wossamotta U

Scared...
Not really a cartoon, but the Captain Scarlet intro always gave me the creeps.

Under Dog, the hero of many!

I still enjoy watching the Looney Tunes cartoons. Bugs Bunny is my hero. Johnny Quest was always a fav of mine. Speed Racer was always a fav too but I remember enjoying it much more then than I do now.

None of the cartoon characters scared me but the Slestacks from Land of the Lost scared the crap out of me then. After watching it as an adult I wonder what scared about those zombie-like creature.

The cartoons of today really don't grab my attention. They seem to dumb situations down and there is a great deal of "toilet humor." There are a few I do watch though...Johnny Bravo is one. Funny stuff.

Favs: Looney Tunes, Transformers, GI Joe.

The only thing I was scared of when I was a kid was the Queen from Aliens. Creeeeepy!

And I love Bugs and Speedy...YouTube.com

That you'd watch if they were still on..... Oh, my! Where to start?

Popeye, everything from the Looney Tunes, Bullwinkle, Tom & Jerry, (some of) Mr. Magoo, Fractured Fairy Tales, Snooper & Blabber, Secret Squirrel, Tennesse Tuxedo, Klondike Kat, Quickdraw McGraw, Snagglepuss, Deputy Dawg, The Go-Go Gophers, Dudley Do-Right, Commander McBragg, Flintstones, Jetsons, Ricochet Rabbit, Top Cat, Deputy Dawg, Dick Dastardly, Punkin' Puss & Mushmouse, and (can I list this here?) Pinky and the Brain.

The only things I remember not getting were Betty Boop and some of the other WWII era and older stuff. Maybe because I never really stopped watching cartoons. Does it count if I never got how anyone could watch Winnie the Poo? It's kind of like Mister Rogers on thorazine.

Just to prove how childish I still am, I sign my email at work: Drizzle, drazzle, dradle, drone. Time for this one to come home.
