What's new

OK, RAD is too rich for my blood

Just cruised ebay for tonight's offerings:

1) The first 3 listed Fatboys are each over $100. None are mint, none have boxes.

2) A 195 is listed at $995.00.

OK, I think I'll move onto something more pedestrian, like collecting Ferraris.

And I got mine in excellent condition from a member for $40, the B/S/T forum pretty much can't be beat.

I have noticed that many eBay prices are getting pretty high. If you do find a great price there, then best of luck!

B&B membership has its percs
The Ebay prices are very high, but it is a market, eh? I suspect, and suspect only, that many of them, and many was a deliberate choice, are being bid up by shill bidders. B/S/T is a better place, but if a member needs to get the maximum price then it is on the Bay.

I am still looking for a decent fatboy executive, I think it unlikely this will come from ebay but rather from B/S/T. But let's face it, no one on this board would sell a fatboy for $9.50 shipped.

My mine a 1962 250 GTO while we're at it.

I wouldn't pay what they are asking for those FB's without being NOS but I've actually seen 195's sell for that. They are extremely rare.

Wow! It's getting pretty disgusting how all goods and services seem to be getting more and more expensive, yet no one is making anymore money.

One of a Newbie's worries with the initial burst of RAD is not that he'll buy more razors than he needs, but that he'll pay more than he needs for individual items.

The most I've paid so far on eBay was $29.02 including shipping for a 1948-50 SS, shaveworthy condition but some wear. The least was $7.74 including shipping for a Gem Micromatic, apparently shaveworthy, but with very noticable brassing on the top door. Maybe both were too much, maybe some others were too much. Will certainly look at B/S/T if another buying fit hits.

Show my naivete here....195? You mean bottom dial FBs right?

Yes it was the prototype prior to the Fatboy that never made it into full production. There probably aren't but a half dozen members of the board that own one. Highly sought after and very hard to find. I've actually seen two of them go for $900 plus on the Bay in the last year or so. I wouldn't drop that for one but to me that is probably the Holy Grail of vintage Gillettes.

One of the hallmarks of RAD is the sense that it's all going bad in a hurry. That the good deals of yesterday (literally) are gone forever.

You need to step back and use a slightly longer time frame. The OP's been doing this since August, according to his join date. Just relax and watch it flow by for a while. There are a great many of these razors in people's bathroom drawers that haven't even entered the market yet.

And get out to the estate sales yourself, if you want some fresh air.
