Two slims and a Fatboy. One slim is true “NOS” unused, the other slim “factory fresh” replate from backroads gold where he does no hard polishing, and a “tuned up” Fatboy that was given a gentle Polish.
A lot of the professional razor resellers online hit the razors they sell hard with buffing wheels. It gives them smoother finishes that look great however the plating is thinner and more prone to corroding and having other issues.
Value wise these will stand out to collectors familiar with factory finishes. I avoid them. If you want a user thst looks nice just get something beat up for cheap and replate it.
It’s not fun. I’ve gotten a lot sent to me misrepresented and selling anything can be difficult. Thanks for all the replies - my take away is that you need to be a serious hobbyist with a lot of knowledge or a professional artisan who does plating and has the eye to spot a plate job
Haha! I remember someone posted what he claimed were his exact methods but he did really start the razor flipping business. You would regularly see people attempting to do the same (and failing). Fatboys have thin plating that is unforgiving. I remember buying one for cheap because the plating was burned through with too aggressive of a buffing compound. I’ve never had any luck in stores but if you’re patient and watch eBay, often, you run into deals before the flippers. Some are definitely NOS, others lightly used to the point it’s impossible to tell.In all the years I would say maybe 4 truly were NOS and they are getting more rare.

I’m a big fan of the 60s Style superspeed cases.
….
Also to me the only definition of NOS is something in the original packaging. You occasionally see a President or Aristocrat with the shipper. Fat boys and slims were in a sealed blister pack. That’s a rare razor that will fetch a high price.
+1! The key question is, ‘Do you want to shave with the razor?’ IMO collectors are very different from users.
