Just Purchased My 1st De. Merkur 33c Like It But Still Working On The Art. Shaves Have Been Good But Not Great. I Usually Shaved Up And Down To Get A Real Close Shave. Is Shaving Both Directions Not Recommended With A De.

Welcome to B&B. It is a matter of developing the correct technique. There is no magic or short cut. Start with correct prep. Do a with the grain pass(WTG). Next is a across the grain pass (XTG). When you get good at this, you might try an against the grain pass (ATG) if your face and skin allows. Brushes can be badger, boar or synthetic. Soaps can be $2 to $25. When you have learned the correct technique and practiced, you get the same result with any soap or brush.
