Need Help!

I've been wet shaving for about a year with an EJ DE89 and an IP Red blade, and am confident my technique is good.

No matter what I do or change I constantly get breakouts/acne after I shave. The acne occurs on my upper lip and my chin below my lower lip.

My routine is to soak my brush a Simpsons Best in hot water while I shower for 10 minutes. I also make sure to wash my face in the shower and then let some hair conditioner soak into my face and neck for about 5 minutes and then rinse off and further soak my face and neck with hot water to really hydrate it.

I get a good lather using either MWF or EM's for sensitive skin. I've even tried. Mike's Soaps. I don't think it's the soap.

I am truly at a loss and am thinking of going back to a cartridge which didn't give me any of these issues. This truly saddens me because I love everything about wet shaving. I just can't deal with these post shave breakouts that last for several days. FWIW I also went to the dermatologist and she gave me a medicated balm to use which hasn't done anything.

And I stopped using a post shave balm and after shave splash as these tended to make it worse, which really sucks because I love the feel of clubman aftershave splash.

please help?

thanks,

dave

I couldnt imagine that this is all from a DE. You could try keeping everything the same and going back to the cartridge. Maybe try another soap. I would add wich hazel as an aftershave and make sure you rinse very well

For one if your shaving against the grain on your upper lip, stop, or if you have to go ATG there do it everyday. The only other thing I can recommend to treat acne and keep it from occurring is to go the old woman route and buy Noxzema original cream and rub it all over your face about an hour before bed and sleep with it on.

That may sound weird but I swear it works, that stuff dries up existing acne overnight and really evens out your complexion. I started using it a year ago and it's the only thing that has ever cleared up my acne.

I've tried different blades and the IP Red seems to be the most forgiving. I tried a Feather no way too harsh.any other suggestions?

Did the with hazel thing and it made it worse. I even tried two types of witch hazel to no avail.

What I do, and I've found it works and helps with acne, is apply witch hazel (just Thompsons that you can buy at Walmart by the rubbing alcohol), wait a minute, and then rub 100% aloe vera gel on. A plus to this is that the aloe vera almost instantly gets rid of any "red angry skin" you might have after shaving.
