Mystery hones... Let's see what you have

Looks like a probable washita. If it's under $50 I'd buy it and run home to get it soaking.

If it's under$40 and you don't want it buy it for me. 😀

I thought it was a black slate and have had zero interest in it but decided to take a closer look and popped it out of it's box to discover it's much thicker than I thought, reddish and dished on both sides.

I was told that this was a translucent Ark, but I have never seen one in this color (looks like it’s butterscotch). It feels smooth as glass and feels pretty dense too. It’s also translucent when backed with a light. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks legit to me on my phone.

On a related note.... I HAVE seen fake translucent arks lately on eBay. They don't look like this and I suspect they're coming from the same places making the "Jade" and "ruby" hones .. mostly being sold out of Russia and east Asia... And they usually have a grain that Arkansas don't have.

I knew I was safe and I would agree with fake me out but it was a private person that deals with basement clean out collectibles so I would have to say this is an old stone. It sure looks amazing in person, just never seen such a colorful Trans ark if that’s what it is.

A strange little hone followed me home today. A unnatural In a nice box, 2X4 and very heavy for its size. Reminds me of a Ruby Hone but the color is lighter. One side is finishing smooth and opposite is grooved for a aggressive cut. Interesting little nugget

Maybe it was used for cleaning bigger stones as well?

Very cool stone. I have always been skeptical about those dated items. Always seemed odd why would all these people from back then put dates on these old stones. The date could also have been added at any time and it maybe much older than that too.

I agree, but it does seem like a 19th century piece at least.

I’m going to lap it with some sic powder and soak it in some simple green to see what I have. It’s 8 x 2 x 1.5
