My Restores

I'm new to brush restoration, but thought I'd share a pic of my brushes.

From left to right:

  • Vulfix 2233 reknotted by Shavemac with an 18mm silvertip knot set at 46mm. A face lathering monster!
  • Semogue 1250 with an 18mm Golden Nib silvertip grade A knot set at 46mm
  • Ever Ready 150 with a 20mm Whipped Dog silvertip knot set at 50mm. Overall height 4.6", my biggest brush (and probably a bit too big)
  • Ever Ready 300PBT with an 18mm Golden Nib silvertip grade A knot set at 48mm
  • Ever Ready 300PBT with an 18mm knot I extracted from a Savile Row 3118 (a fave knot, but the handle was too short) set at 49mm. I was inspired by someone on this forum who rounded the edges of theirs slightly. I like the look.

I have two Ever Ready 300PBTs because that was the brush my dad used when I was little, and I've always loved the look. I restored yet another 300PBT for my brother. I have an Ever Ready 200T in teal and cream on the way, which will probably get a Golden Nib finest knot. Can hardly wait!

Nice family - how does the TGN silver tip at 46mm compare to the WD at 50mm ?

The four on the right are all fairly recent restores, so I've not had too much time with any of them. The TGN 18/46mm feels just a bit denser than my other 18mm knots, as it's set 2-3mm shorter, however it splays about the same. The WD 20/50mm is a lotta brush for me, but other than size, it performs similar to the TGN 18/46mm. The TGN knots are a teensy bit softer on the tips than the WD, though that difference is very slight and I expect is due to manufacturing variances. If I had more than one WD, I'd have a better sense for how the two compare.

Those 300PBTs both look sharp, especially the one with the Savile Row knot. I'm a big fan of all the old ER models that have that basic shape.
