After receiving my 1966 Gillette SS in the mail today (flawless) and re-sanitizing it, I decided to break it in with some DE blades I bought at Publix (a local supermarket) while waiting for my Derbys.
First impressions:
I like the weight and feel of the razor. The blade changes easily and it feels comfortable against the face.
The Shave:
I did my usual, hot towel with 1/2 sink of hot water and tabac, lathered up and went WTG with no pressure.
The shave was MUCH more mild than I expected and I found I actually had to apply some pressure to get a close cut.
I rinsed hot again, re-lathered and went ATG, taking care to make sure my passes were uniform and I rather liked the feel of the warm razor on my face.
I had already shaved this morning and was shaving off my 8:00 shadow, so for my morning shaves I may go WTG/XTG/ATG in that order.
The results weren't necessarily BBS, but close, definitely BBS in many areas and as good as my normal personna M5 shave.
My lasting impression was that this is definitely a mild yet effective shave and I may reach for more aggressive blades if not eventually a more aggressive razor.
Perhaps the blades will make a difference.
The blades I used were branded to Publix, and said "comfortcoated double edge blades".
On the back, it went on to say "Comfort Coated is a registered trademark of the American Safety Razor Company", but it still did not specify who made the blades.
