What's new

My 3 new soaps

This week I have tried for the first time, arko, Williams and VDH.
A friend brought them with him from the USA.
Ive got to say the arko was great but I just could not get a good enough lather with the other two no matter how hard I tried. Any tips?
I must say after tryin 2 high end and 4 low end soaps, that I'm a cream guy but as always ymmv.
Thanks

I can only speak to the VDH, which I happen to love. I get great lather with it. It takes a few seconds longer than my TOBS to get it going but it lathers up just fine. I had a question recently about lather and someone on here told me to load it like you hate it or something to that effect and that did the trick. I put a little hot water on the puck while I shower and I get after it with the brush to load it up, then lather in a bowl - adding a couple drops of water as needed. I love this soap and at $2 or less you can't beat it for value.

Personally, I love arko, some people have issues with the scent, but I actually like it. If you may have to try a little more water. Once you get the mix right, it does great things. I'm actually thinking about buying a box of it to give to my soldiers that are heading to training this summer. Good luck and happy shaving sir!

I think that there are now four Van Der Hagen soaps; Select, Glycerin, Deluxe and the more recent Luxury. When I was starting out I used VDH Deluxe which I picked up to replace the for me ineffectual Williams. As I recall, I could get a decent lather from it, but probably did more work to get it, than I do now.

Later on, I found that adding 4-6 drops of glycerin on the puck before I loaded my brush helped. For what it's worth, when I would be overzealous in going that extra pass (or two, or three) and my face would be raw the next day, VDH Deluxe was always gentle on my skin.

Arko on the other hand, is despite it's synthetic aroma simply a tremendous soap that's easy to lather.

For a long time Williams was all I could get aside from the canned stuff. Then I found VDH and really liked it, the scent, the way it felt etc. The fact that it's so readily available here is just another plus. I actually just got their set (mug, brush and soap) at wally world for $7
