Musgo pre-shave thoughts

Hey guys, I know there are reviews, but a lot of guys don't bother reviewing stuff they use (evidenced by the relatively low number of reviews compared to posts in threads) so I thought I would ask:

If you use it, what do you think? Do you use it as your only face soap, or in addition to another? Does it seem to help?

I'm considering using it in the shower on a daily basis as my face soap. Does anybody else do this? Do you use a cloth or something or just your hands?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance!

I'm gathering you're speaking of the lime "pre-shave" soap? Musgo also makes a pre-shave oil. As far as the soap goes, I think calling it a "pre-shave" is silly. It's a soap, nothing more, nothing less. Anybody who washes his face prior to shaving, regardless of what soap or cleanser he uses, will get the "pre-shave" benefits of cleansing. Having said that, I find the Musgo soap tends to be especially drying, as Trendkill noted, so I don't use it.

I received a bar from West Coast shaving. It was dark brown on one side and it smells old. So I don't know if it is suppose to smell like limes or not. I use it before I shave and it does't seem to soften my beard any more than not using it. I like the pre shave oils the best.

It shouldn't be dark brown. It should be a light yellow all the way through. It should also smell like lime, albeit a pretty synthetic lime. It sure sounds like you got an old puck.

I guess I won't be ordering from them again. I thought it should smell like lime. I guess I will have to order it again to give it a fair chance. Thanks HC

To be fair, WCS is generally a good outfit. I and others here have ordered through John and have gotten good products and service. It's a bummer you had a bad experience. Depending on how long you've already had the soap and how much you've used it, you might contact him and see if you can get a replacement.

I reviewed it

It's not a bad product but I soon realised that a hot shower is all I need as prep. I use a regular bar of soap to soften the beard. The bar last for ages.

Ya your right, I should give em a chance to see if they will replace it.

Thanks HC

So, a few more days with this thing, and I'm not convinced it does anything for me at all, in terms of shaving. I may continue to use it long enough to see if it's improving my skin, however, because that's the real reason I went looking for face soaps. Figured this was a starting point.

If it works for you, great, but in my opinion, there are much better facial cleansers available. What specific improvements are you looking for, by the way?

Actually I talked to WCS today and even though it has been over a month and I did use the product, they are going to send me out a new puck. So they have just gained a customer for life. Thanks HC:001_smile

I use it and I personally really like it. A little bit goes a long way. To prevent over drying I lather with my hands and give my face a good thirty second scrub and rinse it off. It does have a hint of alcohol in it which does add to the drying effect, but I don't mind it. The price is great and it lasts a long time. Not to mention, I enjoy the scent.

+1

I find it particularly helps with my neck.

I like this as a soap but would agree about the drying effect, I recently tried leaving it out of my pre-shave routine and found that my skin felt less tight as a result.
