Mold & Aluminum CADE Bowl

I just popped my fairly new CADE puck out of its bowl and found a rather disturbing amount of very tough (wouldn't come off with a blue scrubbie) mold all over the inside of the aluminum "flying saucer" bowl.

When I've finished with the soap, I've always left it out--lid off--to dry for at least 8 hours to dry before putting away. Is this my fault? Should I have been pulling the puck out of the bowl to dry each time? I checked my other three soaps (Trumper's Rose and Pen's BB in ceramic ramekins and vintage Old Spice in an OS mug) and none have the slightest bit of mold underneath the pucks.

Any advice from more experienced soapers?

I do believe that you're correct that it's a bowl problem rather than a soap problem, as the soap has no attached mold to the bottom of it. Possibly it's a reaction of the aluminum to hard Chicago water--I live directly on the lakefront.

The mold, however, is something. A blue (stainless safe) scrubbie wouldn't put a dent in it.

In any case, I'm comfortable keeping the soap. I'll take the bowl into L'Occitane tomorrow. Perhaps they'll trade me a refill puck for taking it off my hands.

It may have been the old version of the bowl. I know they changed the material to stop it oxidising a little while ago - my guess is your bowl and soap were NOS, so to speak. Take it to your nearest L'Occitane and they should swap it for you.

FWIW - I got the oxidisation on my bowl and didn't do anything about it (before they changed the material), and it didn't affect the soap or shave. I've still got the bowl, actually - I use it as an ashtray :thumbup1:.

I was getting annoyed by the bowl so I replaced the puck in a ceramic container and I am using the L'Occitane bowl as a container for some new blades.
