Lounging On The Isle Of Tugsley.
Last night’s opulent and stupendous shave
RazoRock Hawk V3OC on PAA el Fantasma handle
Feather Pro-Super (4)
Damp washcloth aka “shave binky”
AP ShaveCo Titanium UHD 28mm synthetic brush 53/100
Pre-shave: slopped wet brush around whiskers
Lather: ARKO!, bowl-loaded/face-lathered
Aftershave: Ulm Nom
Post-shave: hot shower
Post-shave: mentholated Equate moisturizer

I thought ARKO! Then I thought “you should steal an idea or two from Kim” and scraped minuscule amounts of soap and rubbed them into the bottom of my lather bowl. Then I set about my ritual.

Rubbed a wet brush on my whiskers, loaded soap on my brush, face-lathered, and shaved. Even though my preferred lather consistency is “lightly poisoned water,” it was poisoned enough. My skin stretching and light touch has mixed results, too. Looking forward to next time.

Modern May for Tuesday -

Razor: Blackbird
Blade: Zorrik super platinum (1)
Lather: alba botanica unscented cream shave
Aftershave: Nivea Sensitive Cool balm, with some added menthol powder

I wanted to do a quck shave this morning, and the Blackbird works well for this scenario due to its above-average efficiency. Good shave today

Last shave of Modern May

Razor: Henson AL13 V2+++
Blade: Gillette Nacet (3)
Soap: Tabac Original tallow
Brush: Omega 10066 Boar
Post Shave: Omega alum block, Thayers Witch Hazel
Aftershave: Captain's Choice Nor'easter

This was a three pass shave. More buffing and touch ups were required to do the job; seems like the blade signed off early.

It was a great shave; no blood, no irritation. Smooth skin.

10/10

Have a good day and good shaves, too!

Tonight’s opulent and stupendous shave
RazoRock Hawk V3OC on PAA el Fantasma handle
Feather Pro-Super (5)
Damp washcloth aka “shave binky”
AP ShaveCo Titanium UHD 28mm synthetic brush 54/100
Pre-shave: slopped wet brush around whiskers
Lather: Wickham’s 1912 Club Cola, bowl-loaded/face-lathered
Aftershave: Ulm Nom
Post-shave: hot shower
Post-shave: mentholated Equate moisturizer

Loaded more soap in the bowl than the night before; was a little less vigorous in skin stretching; and earnestly worked at getting my touch even lighter. Same closeness, more comfort

Notes to these shaves:

Considered to do a last minute switch to my Tech, but decided to do that for another time and finish May on a high with the Athena. Superb shave with excellent results.

Thanks for organising this event @jason2 - lots of fun seeing those modern razors! Excellent gear all!!

Enjoy your shave!

  • Blade: 1967 L3 Gillette Super Silver (16) and Irish Comet Super Stainless (5)

  • Pre-shave: Noxzema
  • Soap: Daveli Farms Sheep Fat and Mike’s Natural Tallow (both excellent)
  • Post shave: Thayer's Witch Hazel followed by (1) the last bit of 1965 Old Spice splash and Stirling Spice balm and (2) La Toja balm (love it)

The Super Silver keeps on delivering superb shaves on its record-extending 16th use. The blade shows no signs of letting up. I've got a couple dozen of these blades, and I'm wondering whether I'll ever take another one from the dispenser! The Athena does an amazing job of controlling the edge of this wonderful blade to extract every last bit of efficiency from it. My typical approach with the Athena of two passes plus minor touch ups yielded a flawless BBS shave. Perfection.

The Comet delivered another wonderful shave that was every bit as good as Monday’s shave with the Athena/Super Silver but with slightly more work required. Modern May has given me a chance to get reacquainted with my Rockwell 6S, which I had not used in awhile before this month. Like the Athena, the 6S holds the blade very securely. Unlike the Athena, the variety of plates allows me to dial in exactly the experience that I want. For me, the sweet spot is the #3 or #4 plate. The #4 is incrementally more aggressive than the #3, which I would describe as mild while maintaining acceptable efficiency. I needed three full passes with the Comet to get another flawless BBS shave, but the milder delivery in the 6S made the shave extremely comfortable.

Big thank you to @jason2 for organizing the event 🙇‍♂️!
