Making shaving at the sink easier?

Has anyone here made anything to make shaving at their sink easier?

I have a small sink with no worktop.

Just wondering really as I was thinking of using a wooden base to put my creams and shaving scuttle/razor on, something similar to a wooden chopping board but perhaps with a notch cut around 1 tap, so the other side is free to run water to allow me to rinse my razor.

If anyone has, photos would be appreciated!

I am thinking of a barstool so I can sit down while shaving!

Wouldn't that be really comfortable?

I have never thought about sitting down while shaving, but yes it sounds like a great idea.

Would you have to have a separate mirror lower down to enable you to do this?

My grandfather allwais shaved while sitting down at a small table witch a small mirror and a pot of water. It was exciting just watching it performing pure art.

Can you put a shelving unit or a small table next to the sink? How much room do you have to work with? Can you post a pic of the space?

As another thought, I've seen pictures of shave dens with hook for razor and brush suctioned-cup to the wall, that might free up some space for you.

Counter space is not a problem at the moment as I put everything away between shaves and take out the essentials only.

However, a shelf or small table to give me more space would be good.

How about mounting a slim shelf above the sink? That should be very doable, and you could even contour one end (or both) to be wider for your working space. A slim shelf would still be out of the way so that you can rinse without whacking your head on it.

I was told when I joined up that I should be able to shave with my eyes closed in the dark. I tried it too but I'm not recommending it to anyone here! :w00t:

This is similar to what I am working with except my taps are on the l/h & r/h corners, so the slim space at the back is the only space I have to put my gear on.

Had some spare softwood lying around so decided to make one similar to the picture above, except my one is flat with no groove and the curve is only on 1 end while the other end is straight.

Just varnishing it at the moment, will let you know how well it works when I have my next shave.

You should indeed install some shelves on the wall on each side of the sink...or go to your nearest Home Depot and buy a more practical sink with counter space around (but that's going to be a bit more expensive)
