What's new

Love my Merkur Futur. What should I get next?

So my main razor is Merkur Futur. I also own Merkur 23C which gives me a good enough shave but not as good as the Futur. What non-adjustable razot could you recommend to me that would possibly work as well as the Futur? I prefer long handled razors and I've been thinking about getting Merkur 38 since it has the same head as 23C but it's heavier which I feel is a part of what makes Futur work as well.

Looking forward to your suggestions:)

Absolutely recommend you to try the 37 or 39C Slant. I'm pretty enthusiastic about it as can be seen from my other posts on it...and it is a pretty hot topic right now. But I do truly believe in this razor and feel everyone should give it a try.

Tradere SB, not cheap but beautifully made. It's not as aggressive as a R41 (what is?) but will deliver the efficiency of a Futur set at 2.5.

After getting a 39c you might look into an open comb model like the 11c or 15c. I think if you invested in a Progress or a Mergress you would love both of them.

Slant - 37 or 39 depending on yoru handle preference. With that one i seem to like the shorter handle. It just feels more maneuverable.

My first DE razor was a Futur. 9 out of 10 shaves I use a 34C HD.

Have you tried one of these?

I have not tried a slant, but a fellow B&B member, has posted me a 37G.

I'm also hoping Santa brings me a 37C.

Thanks for you recommendatios. Since I like the long handled ones the 39C really seems like something to look into.

Wait...don't forget the long handled Progress. The only risk is that is that it is so good you may forget the Futur. Oops...you said nonadjustable. But you should get it anyway, leave it on 2.5 or 3.:001_tt2:

I think the R41 would be a nice addition.

+1 Look at the blade gap chart in the wiki. It didn't list the R41 the last time I looked, but as an owner of both, there's no other place to go IMHO. Other than straights of course.

I'm no expert but can't think of a DE that wouldn't be a negative number compared to the Futur settings (and didn't see one in the aforementioned wiki.) If you have the disposable income, grab an R41.

I stand corrected. The chart lists a Gillette adjustable at its highest setting .02 mm higher than a Futur at 1.

For a long handled razor my #1 recommendation would be a circa 1936 Barbasol DE razor. It's built like a battleship, shaves closely, and looks good to my eyes.

Great recommendation along with the 39 slant or step right up to the shave tool, the Merkur Vision. Smoother than the Future or Progress IMO.

i bought one muhle r41 grande,thesuperiorshave.com.
but the futur is very pleasant.
merkur 23 c is very calm and easy to fly.no turbulence at final aproaching, no wind shear.
