Tree Swallow (male). One of my favorite avian photo subjects. We have a decent-sized breeding colony in a local nature preserve/park, and the swallows are quite used to foot traffic and photographers.
So named because of the waxy red tips at the end of the secondary feathers on the wing. Their function is unknown, but some think that they may help attract mates. They love berries, and flocks of them visit berry producing trees, passing fruit to one another.
From a little drive yesterday.
I found two lakes not too far away from where I live. I'm not sure I can't find one of them again, I was just driving around the countryside only using the small roads in an area where I've never been before.
