Karve Overlander

I have some Wizamet blades and will have to try one soon.

I am such a lemming :letterk1:

Well, thought we need some more razor porn. I followed Bladeforum and had my Overlander 24K gold plated by Chris at Back Roads Gold.View attachment 1427946

Have only shaved once (today) with the Overlander but so far I love it. They would have to polish prior to plating so I'll let mine develop a little patina first but if I don't like it I will get the 24K treatment as that is a killer looking razor!

I like shiny razors and I found to keep the Karve looking nice I had to scrub it once a week with whitening toothpaste. I had used a Dremel tool and jewelers rouge and polished off the bead blasted finish. It looked good, but was just missing something. I am hoping the new gold finish will be easier to maintain.

Oh I'm sure it will be easier to maintain and it looks spectacular. That company appears to do first rate work. Enjoy.

I’m still waiting for a steel one. Am quite surprised at my patience. It seems this razor is really getting some exceptional reviews in the meantime.
I have to say I am impressed so far. The steel version may be quite a while coming, I think you should get a brass one to experience it, then when a steel one comes out buy it and sell the brass. Just trying to help out, you know we all enable each other.

I have plenty of good razors. Too many, actually. I can wait. I was just struck by the feedback on the other thread about the Overlander compared to the Charcoal Goods Lvl2. It seems like the Overlander is gathering quite a following. I’m confident that it wouldn‘t exceed my favourite razors - Rocnel Sailor, Blackland Tradere OC, Blackland Vector - but I definitely will get an Overlander when the steel is released. I am sold on it.

I can't say yet, Chris just finished the razor today, so waiting on shipment from AZ. I used his photo's as I was so excited as to the final results I felt I needed to share.
It’s fantastic that here in Canada we have some of the premier razor makers (Karve, Wolfman, Razorock, Henson) but boy do I wish were even had 1 notable refinish/replate service.
I just can’t justify the price of shipping to the US and back on top of the service $ and currency exchange etc…

I found this useful article from Karve themselves regarding the cleaning of tarnished brass.
I can’t see how to access it from their site but it comes up in a Google search..

https://karveshaving.com/pages/resetting-the-patina-on-your-brass-razor#:~:text=The%20best%20method%20we've,be%20achieved%20with%20mild%20products.

I’ve never had a bare brass razor before so my normally very lax post shave behaviours had left my Overlander with some unappealing dark blotches.

The vinegar bath (10 min. with soft toothbrush scrub) was helpful up to a point. I’ll probably do this for general cleaning but with a longer soak in the vinegar (I’ll maybe even warm it up a tad).
