What's new

Just aquired a French Point FrameBack !

Hiya straight razor shaving bunch,

I just acquired, what I hope to be a very nice french point (pseudo) Frame back ! (French made straight razor)
When I get it I will clean it up and post a pic. I love the look/width of these French Point Frame Backs and I am looking forward to shaving with it.
Is there anything special that I should know about honing one of these with this type of blade edge ?
I wish one of you guys would have rescued me when I was content with a safety razor....Man! I love my shaves with a straight!!
At the moment I have an NOS stamped Tosuke Kamisori, a Wade and Butcher wedge chopper w/ stag scales, nice Case 5/8 carbon steel, a Feather SS kamisori, Dorko 105 Special, 7/8" PUNKTAL 100 Best Silver, NOS 5/8
MULCUTO w/ the gun blued Tang and many more... but I am really fired up about this french point Frame back !
If I need to have it properly restored, who is the the one in the forum to seek ?
Straight razor shaver convert forevermore !
TIA

Awesome score James. Unless the spine is brass, you do not need to do anything different when honing. If it is brass, then you might tape the spine because the metal is softer.
When it arrives please post pictures.

Do you have any stamps on that frameback? Pictures?

Thanks guys,
I want to post a before and after pic of it, if it turns out to be what I hope it is.
I know it is French as it has "lame" on it.. and of course the French point.
I just got a new grinder/buffing wheels so I hope it polishes up nicely ?
I use all of the straights that I buy, don't buy em to display....I never had RAD this bad with safety razors ?!?!?!
$$$$ YKWIM. The razors and all of the peripheral necessities, wow!
Always looking for the ultimate shaving Mojo....
Oh yeah, Just got another vintage J.A. Henckels ;) (BIG GRIN) somebody stop me

Congrats on the frameback. You have an impressive collection of straights. Mycarver does great restorations.

Hiya guy !
So, I guess that you have evolved as well.
Seems we both are searching for that shaving Nirvana ?

I still get my closest shaves with my feather Artist Club SS/ Feather blade - Kamisori handle. Since I started using a loupe to look at the edge and a 12K Naniwa, my honing skills have exponentially improved. After looking at the blade of a Case with a loupe and polishing it more w/ the 12k, I got a really nice shave last night. IMO, Case made some fine shaving straights.
PM me sometime.

Kentucky folk are some fine people in this below the Mason Dixon Line wet shaver's mind. MY Grand Mother/Grandfather and my Dad were born in the Great State of 'Kaintucky'. My favorite beverage comes form their too ;) You are one of the good guys in here, bud. If you need a twist on a fine Mobile, AL style Mint Julep just PM me ;)

Hi friend, I can't make it all out...my French translation sucks.
I did note the word "Lame" which I think means blade in French ?
Since you are a Canadian, I assume you have a better command of the French language than I do. Anyway, I hope this is a nice one and will polish it up and post a photo to get your sentiments on what it may be.
You are the man,
regards

Well, Lame isn't a French word. If you can take a close up picture, maybe I can find the right word.

Turned out to be a true frame back with a Damascus blade. Doesn't have the screw set but has a top lever blade release. The blade is marked B S.G.D.E The tang has: CALMELS A LAGUIOLE HORS CONCOURS 8 MEDAILLOS D'OR. Its a looker. Doesn't need much cleaning, I will post a pic when I get through cleaning, honing and have a shave with it.

Very cool. I haven't seen a damascus frameback.
