So...I'm at work with a couple of guys having coffee and one of them pulls out a new coffee mug. Brand new; he is taking the label off. I never talk about shaving at work but I happened to mentioned that the mug reminded me of a shaving mug. So one guy didn't know what I meant. Odd, because he is 62. So the guy with the mug (in his late 40's) asks about the shaving mug and about how it's used. Then he mentions something (I forget at this point) about razors and I tell him that I shave with a DE. Now he is excited and says he has been thinking about shaving that way. But he knew nothing about the fact that you have to create your own lather or use a brush. So I start to explain but you know how that goes. Where do you get a brush? What about those brushes I've seen in Walmart? Not really good. Why?
Well you guys know I can't really start getting into all that at this point. The guy goes home in 30 more minutes, I can't start explaining water absorption, different brushes, soaps, cream, and on and on. But we spoke for a bit and I showed him Mantic's Youtube channel as well as WCS, pointed him toward a Merkur HD, showed him some blades, explained that after a few weeks of shaving that there are sample packs you might want to try. Googled C.O. Bigelow, told him about Clubman (I had to sneak that in) the whipped out a little spray bottle of Ogallala Bay Rum SR from my lunch bag. He seems excited and I showed him fairly cheap and easy to get stuff to "begin" with. Even a Tweezerman brush which I started with and it served me well with very little cost. It was a decent training brush and cheap enough in case you decide wet shaving isn't for you after 5 shaves.
But, I am wondering where this will go. In a few weeks he could be done with it and find it's not for him or he could be deep in and taking out a loan to build an extension on his home to make a bigger bathroom to accommodate his shaving "hobby."

Well, lucky for him he has me. At least I am right there in front of him to answer questions or even demonstrate. All I had was the internet.
