Is This Normal Break-In?

is this gap that is forming in the knot due to normal break-in for a synth or am i handling it too forcefully? i never use water that is too hot and there has not been any bristle loss, its just formed a gap as pictured.

My guess would be some center bristles folding over onto each other. If you have a wide-toothed comb, you might be able to straighten everything out. A couple strong shakes might also help. I wouldn't say "rough handling" is an issue during use, especially if you comb for 5 seconds after use.

You don't need to press very hard to get good lather, lather is generated mainly at the tips of the bristles. You can also go back and forth instead of in circles. Just be patient, it should work and you will get less foamy lather. You aren't trying to whip egg whites.

If you want a brisk massage, try a soaked loofah!

I'm thinking like the guy in post #2, is the brush in the picture complety dry? It should fill in when dry. If not and it doesn't get any worse, I would not worry about it.

No need to break in a Synth.

Is the brush in the pic completely dry or was it used and is still damp?

Do you bowl or face lather?

Tuxedo knot?

Could be that you are pushing down too hard.
its dry in the picture; i bowl lather. not sure what a tuxedo knot is but the brush is a simpson trafalgar t3. im thinking ive been pushing down to hard.

yknow initially when i first started using a brush i thought i was babying it too much so i started to press harder more often during the lather process because it seemed to be making a difference. guess i shouldnt doubt my instinct.

wash it in dish soap, rinse well, shake it out, strop the tips on a towel a couple of times, then hang it out to dry. if it still has a hole in the middle contact the seller, this should not happen.

It's fine to push a bit, but not too hard. There's a middle ground. You just need to mix and agitate the soap & water. Pushing too hard can lead to the doughnut hole problem over time, though that seems to happen more often in natural hair brushes.

Isn't this the 3rd T3 in the last year that has had this problem?
@Cannon Cocker thank you for creating this thread!
I purchased my T3 back in July 2021 and it hasn't missed a day as I'm a daily face and headshaver. It was only Top view looks like the eye of a hurricane. Believe it or not I didn't notice until it was called out through members of this amazing forum that my brush looked 'off'
Now that I'm aware I've taken steps to treat the brush with a little more care. I've started combing the brush after every shave. It's always matted in the middle but I do brush it out, A few strands come out with it but I imagine that's to be expected. I brushed it this morning and here are some photos. I'm wondering what the consensus is with respect to the brush. Keep using it? Or buy another? I'm really curious what you guys think. BTW I did order a custom brush made by an artisan and will post those pitctures shortly. I received an email yesterday that it's almost ready and it will be shipped out soon. The truth is that I was planning on using the new brush exclusively but now I'm not so sure. On a plus note I feel that it was better to learn some hard lessons with the T3 and will definitely take better care of my new brush.
This is how my T3 looks 10 minutes after the shave, it does looks much more 'normal' after running a comb through it. Just to be clear, I'm rough on (most of) my brushes as I like strong exfoliation.

They did! I opened a case and sent some photographs. Anna at Simpson asked that I send my T3 in for analysis. In exchange they mailed out a replacement.
