What's new

In praise of Rudy Vey

Earlier this year I purchased a Semogue OC boar. Boar has since become my favorite bristle type. I started shopping around for another boar, trying to find something that would grab my goat. Like many of you, no doubt, I shop the handle as much as the knot, if not moreso. I couldn't find anything that quite caught my eye, so I figured I'd purchase a Semogue boar knot and just start shopping around for handles until I found something that I like. I really didn't find anything, but stumbled upon the Omega 10098. I really like the handle on that brush and thought, why not reach out to @Rudy Vey and commision him to make me something in wood based on that design?

Well he did. He fashioned a handle made from some beautiful burl maple. It's also resin stabilzed to boot, so getting wet won't be an issue. I waxed it with some Ren wax before setting the knot to help bring out the rich figure of the wood. I'm really thrilled with it. I've only used it twice so far. Can't wait for the hairs to split so it can fully bloom.

Thanks Rudy!

Beautiful grain in that handle... Rudy provides amazing stuff.... His re-knotting service is also excellent....

I have a brush of his being delivered on Monday.... He's such a fine gentleman and a master at his craft.

This is a photo of my Rudy Vey brush after its first use... It's already blooming nicely.

What is the name of the material for the ivory part? I like that better than some of the others I have seen.

Definitely want to second all the positive sentiments and recommendations for Rudy. He does great work and is just incredibly responsive when you have questions. So, @pellidon, just ask him for his thoughts. FWIW, I've gotten two brushes from him in the past year -- both synthetics using Muhle STF knots -- and they have leapfrogged into being my favorite brushes. Even over my far more expensive badgers. He also reset another brush for me with a G5C knot but I like the Muhles better. Here are photos showing the two that have come to be my most reached-for brushes.
