What's new

Is this a 1947 Milord or What?

I just added this razor to my collection and have a few questions.

What is it? The reason I purchased this is because of the smooth neck band above the knurling on the handle. I thought that was reserved for the Aristocrat junior.
After getting it and giving it a good look. I think I have a 1947 Milord and they often had the smooth band. I see a few on the popular website for sale and this from mr-razor:

Mine weighs in at around 54-55G.

Also the case is pooched. I have removed some unwanted loose ends but I'd like to stabilize the cover material a little.

I'd like to get a little glue under a few spots and glue some loose flaps down. What method glue should I use.

Then I'd like to go over it with a "fixative" to stabilize the entire cover. What would be a good spray on product for that?

Thanks for any help on ID'in the razor or help with the case.

The blade compartment mine is also rather large compared to the mr-razor pic. What blade holder would be appropriate for this case? It looks like it would hold a 1948 style blade holder.

That's interesting Fordfather. It's amazing how many versions there were in the 40's and 50's in the Gillette lineup.
They had quite a few models during this time and it seems that the razors were changed subtly rather often. I don't think the 1946 or 48 Milords had the smooth upper neck band. Is that correct?

I needed to do a little tune up. Doors not closing evenly and a little issue with the ends of the center bar preventing the blade from dropping on to the faceplate easily. Both issues resolved. I got a rather nice shave this AM with a new Russian Nacet.

The gold wash on the doors/end caps/safety bar is all but gone leaving a nickel surface that has a great luster. There is just a hint of a gold "shadow" on either side of the center bar. Someone used this razor a lot a left a lot of honest wear on the head.

I like the story this one tells. It looks great and just so.. I don't know....Tonsorial?
It looks like a surgical instrument.

Any other Milord lovers out there?

You got me curious, all I can offer is there is no recently sold or active auctions of Milords using the 1947 early superspeed with the unnotched center bar/uncreased blade tray (ranger tech head on superspeed handle). There are quite a few based on the American aristocrat Jr.

I have the 1948 or so Milord which is just after yours. Also have the 1949 Milord Rocket model which is rumored to be somewhat on the rare side. I don't shave with that one normally, but do occasionally shave with my 48. They shave about the same as NDC Super Speeds. The AJ I have shaves like the Ranger Techs, 41 and 46, IMO. They are all great engineering examples, and fun to use, as well as giving very nice shaves. If only Gillette were to come out with these models today!
