What's new

Ipod touch worth it?

I'm looking for a new MP3 player. I currently have a 30 GB zune, but due to lack of accessories, battery life and features I kind of want a new one.

Leaning toward the 32 GB Ipod touch for $267 (at amazon) However the 160GB Ipod is only $220. That's huge, but I kind of want to get some apps, games etc from the Ipod store and the wireless internet on it makes it pretty neat.

Anyone have the ipod touch? Is it worth it?

I own a first generation I-Pod touch. It is totally worth it. The amount of awesome applications you can put on it, basically make it a handheld computer.

Just imagine, if you can find a wireless internet connection (becoming more prevalent every day, as more people buy laptops for home use), you could be posting on B and B from just about anywhere. :thumbup1:

In a nutshell an I-Pod Touch is an amazing device, and there is really nothing else like it on the market.

Install the E-Reader app, and you can be reading your favorite book while you are forced to wait in line; we spend a lot of time in life waiting.

The ability to buy things from the Ipod store on the fly is also quite awesome.

In my opinion, you really can't go wrong with the Touch, and newer versions (mine lacks an onboard speaker) are even better.

The Remote app is what sold me on the Ipod Touch. Being able to control my itunes library from anywhere in my house via wifi is great.

My wife just bought me a itouch when I travel so I could load movies on it. I love it so far and now getting into all the apps. Battery is surprisingly well when all I use it for is for movies.

I still can't believe there isn't an app for shaving :w00t:.

There is your exact reason to get one. A couple of family members that are really into apps say it is completely worth it.

If it was just for music then the regular iPod is the way to go.

I have a 32gb 3rd gen iPod. I'm completely in love with it. SWMBO and I gave a smaller 1st gen to her mother for christmas and she's had it glued to her side ever since. They're incredibly intuitive and insanely handy!

I have an Iphone and its rad. apple remote is amazing in my studio or at home as I can yell at my assistant to go change the music using my phone which I can't find in stead of yelling at here to change it on the computer which doesn't really move. It makes her time use more efficiant as she would have to find my phone about 10x a day any way.

Moral of the story: I should be a better boss

Its is beyond words. YES totally worth it. I promise, (very safely) you will never run out of apps. I have just the Ipod / no phone, but same thing because I have had T-Mobile for the last 9 years and get great loyalty rates, (family/unlimited everything--text, data, and minutes) but the ipods we have , 3 get used constantly by my grand daughter and daughter. I don't use constantly but alot and there great

I have the 32 gb and am posting with it now. I also use it for reading books and am currently trying an audio book accompanied by the full print.

Two things I wish it had... a phone and a camera. I think I see an iPhone in my future.

Yes AND no.

You do not want to buy a Touch now. Give it about two months.

Apple keeps a lid on these things, but an entirely new iPhone will hit in June or July. That means an entirely new Touch is on the way, too.

I haven't heard too many rumors, but the screen is supposed to be much better, it'll have a faster proc, a memory bump is highly likely, and they might shave a few bucks off the price. Even if you don't want the new model, the current one will be closed out with a lower price.

So stick it out for about two months and then buy one.

By the way, I'm a heavy iPhone user. Right now, even. I've carried one for almost three years and am also eagerly awaiting the upgrade. The 3GS is tempting, but I'm waiting for the new one!

Thanks a lot guys for the input...I got a birthday in June so I think I can wait a few months. :wink2:

What kind of cell phone are you using? Why not simply spring for an iPhone and get the best of both worlds?!?

Good point. Im using a LG Voyager and on my parents family plan so its pretty cheap. Doubt ill be switching from Verizon. However I heard Verizon may be getting the iphone eventually too.

I feel like I have to stress, with an iTouch, without a wireless network near by, is just what you have. I loved my iTouch at first but when you're actually out and about, unless there is free wifi, you're stuck with what's already on it.

I've had an 8G second generation Touch for about six months and it's been great. I only really use it as a music player travelling to and from work, but it's a wonder around the flat - a small packet of tech no larger than a television remote, that sits on the coffee table where I can use it to control the wifi radio plugged into my hifi, can itself be slotted into the hifi rack to stream stuff that the radio can't, as well as a handy way to check quickly on my email accounts, eBay auctions, the television listings etc. without needing to fire up my PC in the other room, or drag out my laptop. It also does service as my alarm clock in the mornings, streaming the Technicolor Web of Sound station - which has led to some surreal waking moments :001_smile

yeah, that is a slight problem. But with over 150 books, hundreds of my favorite songs, pictures, games, movies and still 20+ Gb of free space this hasn't been debilitating. Battery life is the most limiting, but I have adapters for 120 VAC and 12 VDC, so I rarely have a real issue with that.

It all depends on what you want. :) I have a 160GB iPod Classic. I want storage over what I see as bling and gee-wiz features. However I am visually impaired so I can not see to surf the web on an iPod touch. I went for storage over features. I have had mine for two years now with no problems at all. For a flash based player I have a Sony Walkman 16GB from Walmart. Same storage as a Nano but smaller and half the price...$90.
