In the 24 hours immediately following a shave.

For 24 hours post-shave, do you store your brush with bristles pointed up, or down?

Do you keep your brush oriented with bristles pointed up, or down?

This question is intended to get at whether or not the often preached "wisdom" of needing to let your brush dry bristles down via a brush stand is actually valid. For example, must one buy several brush stands to fit all his/her? brushes? Or is it ok to just leave certain (perhaps larger?) brushes drying with bristles up?
Feel free to expand on your thoughts below.

(Note that this is intended to be for the time immediately post shaving when your brush is still wet. Obviously many many many people store brushes with bristles up long term, when dry, with no ill effects.)

I do it down because I put it in a brush stand. But it really doesn't matter how it's done as long as you take out as much water as possible.

Doesn't seem to matter so long as I squeeze/shake the water out and dry off the tips. But I have been storing them bristles up lately.

I find that most brushes except the densest ones dry pretty well regardless of orientation. Generally the smaller the brush the fast it dries off, and since most of my brushes are small I leave them upright.

I would squeeze out the water in the brush, give it a few gentle shakes, and dry off on a towel before putting it away.

Hi, Badger Bill. My personal view is that it makes no material difference whether the brush dries with the hair/bristles up or down, so it's just a matter of personal preference. Here's a thread from last year that's fairly comprehensive and might be of interest to you.

I rinse the brush well, shake it gently a couple of times, swipe it back and forth over a towel, and store it upside down in a stand. I rotate my brushes and use a completely dry one next shave.

I should get a cookie!

The "brush of the day" rests peacefully bristles down in a razor/brush stand. The next morning it is mostly dry so I put it back on the shelf with its friends, all standing faithfully at attention awaiting their turn for the call from the bullpen. I call up the next player for the day and the process starts over.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - anyone who stores their brush bristle down is an ignoramus and anyone who stores their brush bristle up is an imbecile.

Hang on. I do both! :cursing:

I have a brush stand stuck to my bathroom wall. If the brush I'm using fits, in it goes.

Boar bristles down in brush stand at least overnight. (I only have one brush stand so next brush gets put in after use.)

Up because I don't have a stand. Just give it a good flick and set it. If I'm breaking in a boar I'll blow dry it after use.

I shake my brush to get rid of excess water, then i do a towel dry method. I then store it on its handle. I have had no ill effects on any brushes in many years.
