What's new

I will have to be a patient.

My Father-in-Law in visiting the family house in Nicosia, Cyprus at the moment. It was my wife's aunts house. The old lady died just a few years ago but her husband died in 1975.

She never threw anything out, and there is a Gillette razor, still in it's box, waiting for me when I get there in August.

Now what could it be, and what age? The uncle was not a poor man, but neither was he renowned for spending his money.

I will just have to wait and see what it is. Patience!

I have a hard time waiting the 5 days for some one to ship me what I ordered. 2 months is a long time to think about it. I just hope that it is a great find and you are not disappointed.

Surely everybody has a digital camera and email?
OR
Offer to re-imburse him for a "disposable" camera, snap a few shots, and send to you.

For that price they could just send the thing overseas.

I don't know how you do it, Brian-- I'd be thinking of every possible excuse for your family to ship it to you.... did you hear about the great steel and brass shortage of 2007 that's halted all production of new razors? It's a shame someone just stole your current blade, isn't it?

Just back from Cyprus.

The mystery razor was a Gillette Super Slimtwist "Made in England".

Similar to

http://cgi.ebay.com/GILLETTE-SUPER-S...QQcmdZViewItem

but with a metal end to the handle as here

http://cgi.ebay.com/1954-GILLETTE-Z1...QQcmdZViewItem

new, in its plastic case with outer cardboard box (but lacking internal padding to cardboard box).

The razor looks new, with its two original Super Silver blades, one in the razor, the other in the white dispenser box.

No date latter, but a figure "2".

Any ideas about age? Did they start on numbers when they ran out of letters?

And any ideas about value? Might trade for something that interested me.

Mine has the metal handle tip, but comes in a plastic box rather than a bubble pack.
